Just because its a parents responsibility does not mean you don't benefit from it, and there are plenty of parents who don't consider that their responsibility or simply don't do it.

Its completely relevant, every accomplishment I've ever achieved I have thanked someone for assistance. My father did not have to loan me money for law school. Benjamin Cardozo did not have to fight the establishment to open law schools up to more than just the elite. My grandfather did not have to pay for me to go to undergraduate school. My mother did not have to teach me how to be a good and patient parent. My 5th Grade teacher did not have to believe in me and explain to me that I was not dumb for not being able to spell. My college girlfriend did not have to show me how much bigger of a place the world was than I had previously believed. My first boss did not have to teach me as much about litigating as he did.

I could go on for days and days!
