SCOTUS is now a radical right-wing, activist body - with its own agenda for America. This agenda is not in line w/ the mainstream.
How'd we get here? If things played out normally, Garland would have been appointed, and we'd at least have close to the normal balance we've known for decades. That's out now. Republicans play this game better than Democrats, and a country of 330 million now has one of its 3 branches of government catering entirely to a fringe portion of the population.
Everything is on the table now: marriage rights, equal rights, birth control, voting rights. The right-wing has rigged this beautifully. They weaponized SCOTUS, and now can theoretically maintain Republican rule by having the court uphold voter restrictions and other vote suppression efforts.
So, this is not a time for Democrats, Independents and moderates to sit on their hands. Volunteer. Get people in your area registered to vote & make sure they understand the rules and what they need to cast their votes. Work on petitions. Support candidates who will fight these restrictive measures and who will protect our freedoms. Support anything you can to restore some balance back to the American political landscape.
