Mikhy Robinson, the 2-year-old boy killed by a gunshot to the head in Newark's South Ward this morning, was a playful, friendly and outgoing child, according to neighbors on St. James Place, the quiet residential street where Mikhy lived with his family.

"He was loving, full of energy," said Brenton Smith, the landlord of the 4-family brick house on the 100 block of St. James where Mikhy was shot shortly before 10 a.m. "It breaks your heart to hear he's gone."

A person familiar with the investigation says the shooting death appears to have been accidental.

The person says neighbors reported hearing a man yelling "I'm so sorry" repeatedly and there was evidence someone tried to clean blood up from the scene.

A Pearland man accidentally shot his uncle in the leg Saturday.

The incident occurred at a home located in the 2200 block of Ocean Point Ct.

According to police reports, the 27-year-old man wanted to show his uncle his Glock semi-automatic handgun and took him upstairs to the master bedroom where the gun was stored.

Police say at the time of the incident the gun held a fully-loaded magazine and a live round in the chamber.

The accidental shooting happened when the two men were standing at the foot of the bed facing each other after the gun-owner had removed the magazine from the weapon.

Officials said the gun-owner had the weapon pointed slightly downward and as he was pulling back the slide the gun discharged.

The round entered the victim’s thigh, passed clean through his leg, then into a bedroom dresser and landed in a drawer.

A man who racked his gun last night after hearing knocks on the door of his Northwest Side apartment accidentally shot his girlfriend while storing it away, police said.

Someone knocked on the door of the couple's second-story apartment in the 4400 block of Horizon Hill Boulevard Friday night, so the boyfriend got a gun and racked it so it would fire if he pulled the trigger, San Antonio police said.

He left the gun on the coffee table next to the futon, where he sat watching TV.

Deciding to put it away, he grabbed it, brought it up to his chest, “didn't realize that it was loaded and accidentally pulled the trigger,” Belanga said.

A bullet hit his girlfriend, also in her 20s, as she walked around the corner, he said.

She was taken from the Fountainhead Apartments to University Hospital in critical condition from a stomach wound.
