...draft dodgers and opponents of war that have helped to keep us free from the slavery of conscription and perpetual war. These brave men and women stood against the enemies of freedom, liberty and peace, i.e., the state.
Among these are our founders who opposed the existence of a standing army in times of peace. The third amendment to our Constitution stands as a relic to the founders opposition to being forced to board soldiers whose only purpose (not there chosen purpose but that given to them by the King) was oppression of the people that boarded them. Now days they don't live in our homes but we are still forced to pay for the housing and other expenses. Of course, if it were purely a defensive force few would complain. But when used as a tool of oppression those who love liberty must cry out.
A notable opponent of modern times is Dwight D. Eisenhower, who though he served in the military valiantly, as a citizen President sought to guard against the rising influence of the military-industrial complex. Sadly, he was not completely successful.
Also, thank you, to those who, on principle, would never consider joining an offensive military. And to the parents who, in disregard to propaganda, strongly counsel their children not to join the military.
An offensive military roams about the globe seeking enemies. If a man goes looking for enemies he is certain to find them, even if none existed before he started searching. As it is for a man, it is for a nation.
If not for the sacrifice of these brave men and women the enemies of freedom, liberty and peace would undoubtedly drag us into one war after the next, only hindered by the declining numbers of their slaves/soldiers.
