It's nice to hear from someone who is knowledgeable and bothers to make a point. I only have a single civil war text, Battlecry of Freedom by McPherson from
Princeton. I read about 2/3rds of it. So highly footnoted and those notes were interesting to track down but it made reading it good, but somewhat felt
like homework.

That’s the problem with all this.

Part of me is like ‘fine, whatev’ if the want to cancel military base names, flags and etc.

But the logical side of me [starting to think of it as a curse] says ‘ok, now what?’

Will that stop black on black carnage in urban areas? Will it lower the out of wedlock birth rate in many black communities? And the rest of the things we aren’t supposed to talk about?

No, it’s just a feel-good measure that keeps the root problems swept under the rug. Systemic racism is another one. Sure, go ahead, pretend the problems that affect the black community are due to systemic racism [note how it’s rarely, if ever, defined] or, might as well say it—due to the man.

I can tell you right now, nothing will change.

There is a dynamic going on here though and I’ll show you exactly what it is. You probably won’t like it.

The left likes nothing better than sticking it to southerners and Red Staters. It’s part of the broader culture war. The left/Democrats don’t really care about blacks—all you have to do is look at Democrat run cities. For example, I’m pretty sure they actually know pressuring NASCAR into banning the confederate flag won’t actually improve black lives.

But they like to stick it to southerners, so yeah.

Unfortunately, many blacks have fallen for it [again] and think ‘it really means something’ that the confederate flag will no longer be seen at events most of them rarely attend or even watch on TV. And, something..something..Trump.

There is literally no end to Democrat’s cynicism in that regard. They will use blacks for anything.

The culture war was astroturfed into being by Fox news "anchor" Bill O'Reilly. They fired the first shots. They made it a "thing."
I didn't know southerners had any issues until that gomer started mouthing off. I live in So Cal in a mansion on a mountain.
Like I cared about all his fire stoking about Christmas at Walmart, or ...whatever.

Country folk got riled up, as intended. There were no liberal TV shows bagging on the south.

Not one of the books you listed were written after the turn of the century, and all were written by southerners who lived through the civil war. So naturally they would be pro south.
Next not one book was even mentioned in any history books used from 1900 and later.

My bigotry against the south here is total bullshit, I admit that. I love the south and the people there.
I hate the politics of the far right these days and if I had a handy ez button for the rest of them I'd use it, here, anonymously.
Plus, white people are not a subjugated class, so I frankly don't see epithets as especially hurtful to them.
It's like making fun of Romans. How thin skinned must you be?

I suspected. My uncle was from Raleigh, spent his career years in Pittsburg. I never got "south" from him.
Do you agree with the tail wag dog substance though. Admit the truth in it. Fox was the first outlet generating that crap.
