Ohio Car Dealers: "Competition BAD...Socialism GOOD!"

Once upon a time a long time ago I worked on a car lot, for about 3 weeks. In that time I saw car salesmen engage in so much antisocial behavior. 3 guys were dealing drugs under the guise of test drives, one car salesmen took a young woman for a test drive, gave her directions where to drive and took her to his house where he made such inappropriate remarks and suggestions she WALKED 5 miles back to the lot. Salesmen would talk all the time about how they raped someone on the price of the car, how they lied to older people about the need for extended warranties, etc. I made fairly good money for those three weeks but could not resort to the tactics that made some of those guys tons of money,

Did you ever see the old movie "Used Cars"? It was hillarious. I watched it with a friend who was a sales manager at a Chrysler Dealership and he thought the movie was spot on in identifying their bad behavior.

I think anyone who works with salesmen of any stripe has a whole lot of stories about salesmen behaving badly.

"Howdy folks, I'm Marshall Lucky for New Deal Used Cars...Now wait just a Goddamn minute. What the hell is this? Is this a 1974 Mercedes 450SL for *twenty-four thousand dollars*?

That's TOO FUCKIN HIGH!!

KABOOM!

Yessir. We blew the shit out of that over-priced motherfucker just the way we blow the shit out of *all* high prices, down here at New Deal Used Cars!

Oh my God I never laughed so hard in all my life!

And remember...$50.00 never killed anybody!

My mistake...thanks for setting me straight.

I may have been wrong about WHAT it was, but no matter what you call it, what the auto dealers in Ohio are trying to do is WRONG.

Having everyone play by the same rules is wrong ?.....unbelievable....

It is kind of protecting jobs, though. Imagine the dip in employment if we transitioned to online dealerships, and didn't have an emerging industry to compensate. It could be a abundance/inequity situation.

Sure! As long as it's a State that supports crony Capitalism you are ok with it even after openly stating you aren't ok with the concept............

Maybe you should think for yourself instead of letting your State think for you.

Are you really this fucking retarded?

Imagine if everybody buys cars, those of us who make buggy whips will be out of a job! Better make a law that everybody must purchase one horse and a buggy whip, that way we'll be safe!

Things you should understand about self-adjusting nature of markets.

1. Never in human history have we had technology developing at its current speed. Markets have, in the past kept up, but it's becoming harder and harder.
2. In order for the jobs lost to technology to be replaced, an emerging industry has to exist.
3. Once these jobs are lost, workers need to be retrained. They (and the government) typically bear that burden. In our current economy, we're not capable of doing that.

Spoken like a true believer of socialist theory.

The fact that a truly free market adapts incredibly fast, especially when compared with the sloth-like speed of Big Government, completely destroys your argument.

The speed of that technology is due to free markets. The gobblement should not be in the business of job training. It presumes they know what jobs they should be trained for. It is the ultimate of nanny state social engineering

Have you ever had a job that had ZERO training? The notion is preposterous

I'll take the first part as a compliment.

As for the second, as I said before, it's conditional.

Neither does anyone else...yet they, and Y-O-U, still do.

No. On the chance occasion that I'll complain, I do it about other posters, and do it gracefully. I won't make thread after thread about it, and derail every single possible conversation. This is true about the vast majority of people here. Have some self respect, zap.
