‘Of Course’ You Can Be a Democrat and Pro-Life, Pelosi

I hate labels & boxes.

Most people have stances that are much more complex than a neat little category. Of course you can be a Dem & pro-life, just as you can be a Republican and pro-choice.

Affiliation with party should be a informal agreement on an overall philosophy and approach to things - not a lockstep group of boxes to check off.

How cute. Your party would NEVER nominate a pro life democrat for President and you know it. Spare me.

Pelosi is lying. Perez just openly stated what EVERY democrat thinks. Of course they know that they are out of step with the American people so they are walking it back

Pro choice isn't "out of step." At best, it's about 50/50 in the country - but a majority always support keeping Roe as the law of the land.

That's probably true about a nomination for President, though that still doesn't define "Democrat." Any nominee will have to appeal to the more left-wing DEMOCRATS, so that's a strategic decision. It doesn't mean that all Democrats have to be pro-choice.

The democrat party's pro choice stance is out of step. They aren't just pro choice, they are militantly pro abortion. The majority of this country is against partial birth abortion. The democrat party is pro partial birth abortion. The democrat party loves Kermit Gosnell

"Partial birth abortion" is such a dishonest starting point for any discussion on this topic. It's basically a myth, but it gins up emotions, so of course, politicians focus on it.

oh it's a myth? so it never happens?

the only myth is that Planned Parenthood says it is a healthcare center and not an abortion mill. Want to know how we know that is bullshit? Simple. Trump said they could keep federal funding if they gave up abortions. They said no. If abortions weren't a money maker and only a small part of their business, they would have given it up. But, Trump exposed their lie. Kudos Trump

Democrats have lost their minds, their morals, and their way. In no particular order.
Which is why they are out of power at present and in the forseeable future.

thank God almighty

It is an interesting point.

Did they lose their minds which caused them to lose their morals? Or did they lose their morals which caused them to lose their minds?

That such private questions as abortion have become perhaps the main centre of political division in the 'States just indicates how far the powers-that-be have succeeded in distracting your minds from real issues.

List the ELECTED pro life democrats in the US Senate and House of Representatives. Shouldn't take long.

List starts here:

Ends here.

You're right, that didn't take long.

There are pro life democrats though. I do tend to agree with most on here that there is no way they could be nominated in or win a nation wide, primary type election. There is this tendency nationally among dems that lefter is better. Don't agree but that's the reality.

Pelosi: Democratic candidates should not be forced to toe party line on abortion

By Karen Tumulty May 2 at 7:44 PM

The Democratic Party should not impose support for abortion rights as a litmus test on its candidates, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Tuesday, because it needs a broad and inclusive agenda to win back the socially conservative voters who helped elect President Trump.

“This is the Democratic Party. This is not a rubber-stamp party,” Pelosi said in an interview with Washington Post reporters.

“I grew up Nancy D’Alesandro, in Baltimore, Maryland; in Little Italy; in a very devout Catholic family; fiercely patriotic; proud of our town and heritage, and staunchly Democratic,” she added, referring to the fact that she is the daughter and sister of former mayors of that city. “Most of those people — my family, extended family — are not pro-choice. You think I’m kicking them out of the Democratic Party?”
