October surprise - marijuana decriminalization?

Legalizing pot is always a winning issue, and Biden just took one major step towards that:

President Joe Biden is taking his first major steps toward decriminalizing marijuana, fulfilling a campaign pledge to erase prior federal possession convictions and beginning the process of loosening federal classification of the drug.

It never made any sense to keep pot illegal, and it makes little sense now since a majority of Americans live in states with either legal medical pot or recreational.

The party that legalizes pot is the party that will have an easy time retaining control of government.
Right, appeal to the braindead pothead burnouts.

Even that won't save you.

Why? Is it because that party figures it's easier to get people who are stoned stupid to vote for them? The Soviets used to hand out vodka to get people to vote for them, maybe this is the same sort of reasoning...
It was a campaign promise, he’s fulfilling his promise.

while this, overall, is a good thing, it was downright unconstitutional for the feds to criminalize it in the first place. It was absolutely shameful that most of the country was dumb enough to let them.

If it took a constitutional amendment to prohibit alcohol, and another amendment to make it legal again, how did the fed make marijuana illegal with a law?
I’d tell you, but you’d accuse me of pulling the race card.

Not sure why it took him 20 months to pardon them?
I hope he did not keep this in his pocket, letting these people rot in prison, to be used when he politically needed it (like right before the mid-terms).

But, it's GREAT that he did that.

That is perfectly reasonable. We currently deal with DWI, so driving while stoned can be put in there as well. I don't know the state of rapid field-deployable pot intoxication detection, but it only makes sense to enforce the same laws the same way.

I have no problem with that. I think there should be the sort of ad campaign and required warning on marijuana products that tobacco and alcohol get too. These would include (in my opinion)

Caution! Product can result in criminal charges up to 30 days after consumption when operating a motor vehicle
Caution! Product is known to cause cancer, birth defects, and other medical issues.
Caution! Product can cause loss of employment or denial of same due to insurance and safety issues

Those are a few of the warnings I think should go with marijuana products. But I won't say you shouldn't have your (idiotic) choice to use them if you want.

So long as it is stigmatized like tobacco and alcohol and DUI / DWI laws are in place for driving while stoned...

No one should ever drive any vehicle while impaired...and I have no problem with laws that prohibit driving while drunk, high, or buzzed.

That's harsh.

I stopped smoking for 28 years because my wife did not like it and then because of her security clearance.

I wish that had not happened.

So you're saying as long as people can get high they won't give a shit that they are paying over $5/gal for gas? How about heroin? I wonder what you could get people to buy into if you legalized that?

Works for me. I'm guessing the Republicans will grumble then follow suite in order to distance themselves from the meth-fueled White Supremacist assholes.

Sorry about your banning. Did you take my advice to alter or delete the offending post or did you blow me off? I'm curious since it would give details about moderation.

Only fucking authoritarian assholes seek to control what people do.

Whatever happened to personal accountability? Why do you insist on controlling what others do?

Possession of marijuana is a federal offense under the Controlled Substances Act 1970, which was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Nixon.

Let's see if Congress decides to decriminalize in order to regain some measure of public trust that they all aren't complete fucking douchebags.

I thought you claimed to be Libertarian. Isn't pot legalization one of their watershed issues?

People claim to be all sorts of things but it's their actions that reveal what they truly are.

A person who always supports authoritarianism, be it Left or Right, is an authoritarian.

People who support individual rights also expect personal accountability. Want to smoke or drink? Fine. Want to sell it to kids or drive under the influence, expect to pay the price for it.

This board is infamous for posters claiming to be free thinking Libertarians, but every election season you find them praying that Republicans will be victorious.

You might be one of the few authentic Libertarians this board has ever had .

^^^
Supports Alt-Right authoritarianism. "Might makes Right! Submit to us or pay the price!!!"

LOL King George III would be proud of you, Lig.
Who do you support? Specifically.

I don't GAF about pot, but when you run into a person who has smoked pot all their lives they present as braindead burnouts. It is what it is. Substance abuse of any sort is not my cuppa.
