Possibly true. But after Ukraine/Russians have seen Russia's behavior they may not pine for the mother land as much. I could see a war settlement that guaranteed Russia right to continue using the Baltic shipping routes unmolested.

IMHO, as soon as Vlad opened up the new Ukrainian front in 2022 (an escalation of the 2014 war) ... NATO should have declared Ukraine a No Fly Zone.
