[h=1]U.S. troops posed with body parts of Afghan bombers[/h] [h=2]An American soldier says he released the photos to the Los Angeles Times to draw attention to the safety risk of a breakdown in leadership and discipline. The Army has started a criminal investigation.[/h]
The paratroopers had their assignment: Check out reports that Afghan police had recovered the mangled remains of an insurgent suicide bomber. Try to get iris scans and fingerprints for identification.

A soldier from the Army's 82nd Airborne Division with a dead insurgent's hand on his shoulder. It's one of 18 photos given to The Times of troops posing with corpses.

The 82nd Airborne Division soldiers arrived at the police station in Afghanistan's Zabol province in February 2010. They inspected the body parts. Then the mission turned macabre: The paratroopers posed for photos next to Afghan police, grinning while some held — and others squatted beside — the corpse's severed legs.

A few months later, the same platoon was dispatched to investigate the remains of three insurgents who Afghan police said had accidentally blown themselves up. After obtaining a few fingerprints, they posed next to the remains, again grinning and mugging for photographs.

Two soldiers posed holding a dead man's hand with the middle finger raised. A soldier leaned over the bearded corpse while clutching the man's hand. Someone placed an unofficial platoon patch reading "Zombie Hunter" next to other remains and took a picture.

The Army launched a criminal investigation after the Los Angeles Times showed officials copies of the photos, which recently were given to the paper by a soldier from the division.

I love the second photo.

Der leader is not having too good of a month with all the scandals coming out, GSA, Secret Service sex scandal, and now this.

Please, post more, Webbway.

You are the ultimate conservative.

Post more.

dude....the same kind of shit happened under bush. unfortunately war is hell and sometimes if effects the troops and they act in hellish manner.

Most everything confuses and scares you, doesn't it, yuck? Still afraid of the JD?

you obviously have me confused with someone else. you keep talking about stuff i have no clue what you're talking about.

Feigning ignorance doesn't become you, esquire.

Two years ago? Dang. These dudes' pictures were handled back at the Battalion level long ago, or should have been. It isn't good, but reinvestigating and them punishing again would be wrong. (If they were dealt with I should say. I have no sure evidence of that.)

Pretty sure they couldn't be punished again (officially) if they were already punished.

Guys, this is common to all wars where cameras were available that I know of. It isn't on Obama no more than it is on Bush. I saw a picture of one of my friend's dad posed with a dead Vietnamese. The Vietnamese was shot in the forehear and a burning cigarrette was sticking in the bullet hole in the picture. None of it is good and none if it seems civilized. But to blame/connect an incident that happens half a world away with whoever is president at the time is crazy. I have enough reasons to not vote for president Obama.

Yeah, nice try, Webbway. This stuff happened under Bush (Abu Grahib) as well, and, I would imagine, under Clinton in the Balkans...

Goes to show how much Webby loves the troops. Should I be offended? I guess I don't really consider him to be a human being, so I can't really get offended...

is he? do you know anyone relishing this?

The one with the soldiers holding the mutilated remains of another human being?

NATURALLY Yurt will ignore the obvious relishing going on in Dweebway's post...but what else is a partisan hack like Yurt to do?

Actually admit a Liberal is right?
