The National Health Service has been praised as the world's best health-care system by an international panel of experts who said it was superior to those found in countries which spend far more on health.

The study, entitled “Mirror, Mirror on the Wall,” also described US healthcare provision as the worst globally. Despite investing the most money in health, the US refuses care to many patients without health insurance and is also the worst at saving the lives of people who fall ill, it found.

The Commonwealth Fund, a Washington-based foundation produced the report. The fund is respected around the world for its analysis of the performance of different countries' health systems. It examined 11 countries, including detailed data from patients, doctors and the World Health Organisation, the Guardian reported.

"The United Kingdom ranks first overall, scoring highest on quality, access and efficiency," the fund's researchers conclude in their 30-page report. Their findings amount to a huge endorsement of the health service, especially as it spends the second-lowest amount on healthcare among the 11 – just £2,008 per head, less than half the £5,017 in the US. Only New Zealand, with £1,876, spent less.

This is about as dumb and naïve as asking Democrats what they think about Republicans. This is an agenda based fund that wishes to promote BIG Government management of healthcare systems on the mistaken belief that by having Government LIMIT how much care citizens can have, costs can be "managed."

The US system WAS superior to any systems in the world in that when you had a problem, you could see a doctor almost immediately and if you needed serious surgery, there were specialists available for immediate care. Of course this is slowly deteriorating thanks to the ACA.

That is NON-EXISTENT in the NHS and any other Government controlled system in the world because they manage costs by LIMITING hospital access and specialists. It is why the rich and powerful typically come to the US when they need surgery or specialized care.

You've been brain washed much like your cousins have in Kanukistan and when told you have to wait two months to see a specialist or a year for hip surgery, you stupidly believe someone else must have needed it more than you did. That is a common theme when you ask brain washed liberals the world over why they had to wait for basic care.

Although it is anecdotal, I have a friend whose father lived in England and who, after seeing their doctor, was in need of immediate bypass surgery. They put him on a waiting list that placed his surgery at about a year. They paid extra to bypass that wait time and he was scheduled for surgery in two months....he died of a heart attack while waiting.

If he had lived here, he would have been scheduled the following week; that's a FACT.

This notion that Governments can manage something as massive and complex as a nations healthcare is a fools paradise that can never be.

He talked about it plenty during the campaign. He said he'd repeal Obamacare, but replace it with a better plan for healthcare for everyone, that the government would pay for.

You missed that, somehow?

Business Insider would beg to differ! The biggest advantages of systems like the NHS are that they're free at the point of use. No need to fill in endless forms, hence far less bureaucracy, prescription medicines are capped in price to around 10 dollars per item and no need to worry if you're covered by insurance. Nobody in the UK ever goes bankrupt just because they can't afford the medical bills.
