The father of an Atlanta girl who apparently fatally shot herself with a loaded gun in her family’s home on Saturday has been arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct, authorities said.

Atlanta police say 6-year-old Ja’Mecca Smith found a loaded gun in sofa cushions in her home early Saturday morning and shot herself in the head, according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.

Ja’Mecca died at about 11 a.m. Saturday inside the home, located at 1041 Martin St.

It was initially believed her father Demarqo Smith, 25, had shot the girl but an investigation revealed the girl shot herself.

Her father had apparently fled the scene briefly but returned to speak with detectives, authorities said. At the time of the incident, there were reportedly at least four other children in the home and two adults, according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.

It was reported Sunday that the girl’s father was being held at the Fulton County Jail without bond.

ROCKVILLE, Md. (ABC7) — He preached the good word on Sunday mornings, but police say he spent his nights hunting escorts at Montgomery County hotels.

Gabriel Omogbo, 33, of Hyattsville, is charged with a slew of criminal counts, including attempted first degree murder, armed robbery, first degree assault and reckless endangerment.


Police say Omogbo would troll Backpage.com, using the website to broker prostitution deals with women.


Attacks one and two happened at the Best Western Plus along W. Montgomery Avenue in Rockville. There Omogbo allegedly raped and robbed two call girls he had met online. Attack number three took place at the Radisson Hotel along Research Court in Rockville, near Shady Grove Adventist Hospital.


Investigators say Omogbo met an escort in a third floor hotel room shortly after midnight. Following a round of consensual sex, the 33-year-old emerged from the bathroom holding a kitchen knife. Omogbo ordered the woman to strip naked and then reportedly said, "You are going to die today."


Omogbo went on to beat the woman's face, cut her arms, legs and hands and stole her iPad, pre-paid T-Mobile cell phone and $300. However before fleeing, he told the woman to wash up, and then handed her a cup of cold water to drink. The escort survived the onslaught and called 911.


Forensic technicians collected DNA evidence from each of the hotel rooms where the incidents occurred. Meanwhile detectives began to tedious task of crosschecking the phone number Omogbo used to communicate with the escorts via local pawn records. They got a hit.


Surveillance cameras at the Best Western and Radisson also captured a man around 6 feet, 180 pounds wearing Gucci blue jeans and brown loafers arriving and departing the hotels around the times of the attacks. The man is undoubtedly Omogbo, police say.


According to his Facebook page, Omogbo is a preacher at the Celestial Church of Christ. Photos show him dressed in a white ministry robe preaching from a pulpit as congregants (mostly females) listen attentively. In a Facebook post from June of this year, Omogbo wrote, "I can't but give glory to God for using me for his glory... Lord u [sic] are all to be praised."


Up until his arrest, Omogbo, a former Bowie State University student, was living with his parents in an apartment along the 2600 block of Kirkwood Place in Hyattsville.


According to court documents, when away from the pulpit, Omogbo worked as a security officer for Lanham-based company, Security Protective Services.

Investigators have not divulged any potential motives. Omogbo, who will next appear in Montgomery County District Court on January 8, 2016 at 10 a.m., faces life imprisonment. He is currently behind bars at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on a no-bond status.

A physical altercation took place between a 55-year-old woman and the teen accused of murder in the case, Wilson police said Monday. Donna Lynne Davis, 55, was found dead in the middle of the road Saturday night and 16-year-old Albert Henry Jones III of 1102 Rountree Ave. has been charged with murder in the case, police said.

Police are continuing to investigate this case, said Wilson Police Sgt. Steve Stroud.

Davis’ son, David Sean Franzwa, told the Wilson Times Monday the family was devastated by her death. Franzwa called his mother’s killing "senseless.”
He said the family was still trying to come to terms with it all. "I don’t understand why a 16-year-old would randomly murder my mom,” Franzwa said. "He left her laying in the middle of Vance and Maplewood intersection.”

On Saturday, 911 received a call after 9:30 p.m. of an unresponsive woman lying in the intersection of Vance Street and Maplewood Avenue. Attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.

An autopsy will be performed to help determine the cause of death, police said. Capt. Kendra Howell said the autopsy was being conducted Monday.

Jones made his first court appearance Monday afternoon before Wilson County District Court Judge John Britt. Jones, who was clad in an orange jumpsuit, was also wearing what appeared to be a medical mask over his face.

Britt told the court that the reason for the mask was because Jones had been spitting at people. As Jones stood before Britt in court, the judge read the murder warrant aloud. Britt said Jones had just turned 16 years old on June 9 and that he would need appointed counsel in the case. Britt said due to his age, he was going to waive the process of indigent defense services to get him a lawyer as soon as possible. Britt appointed attorney Tom Sallenger to the case. Britt ordered the teen to be held under no bond at this time.

Jones’ next court date is slated for Dec. 14. Police also charged Jones with a failure to appear in an unrelated case. The teen also has pending charges in other cases in Wilson County, according to court records. Those charges include misdemeanor injury to real property, misdemeanor probation violation, misdemeanor communicating threats and misdemeanor simple assault, according to records.

Davis was found two blocks from her home, family members said. Her dog, Trixie, was by her side when she was found, according to her family. Franzwa said his mother would walk her little dog every evening around 8 p.m. in the area and then return to her Bragg Street apartment. "That was her normal evening dog walk,” he said.

Franzwa said his mother, who was on disability, was known in the neighborhood."She was a member of that community,” he said. He said his mother never met a stranger.
"She was a very outgoing person,” he said. "She was an animal lover. She loved children.”

Two men a sheriff labelled “cowards” stole a cellphone from a suburban Detroit man with cerebral palsy, beat him, recorded the assault on his cellphone and posted it to his Facebook page, authorities said.

Nikey Dashone Walker and Shadeed Dontae Bey were arrested following the Sunday morning attack in a stairwell at the 23-year-old victim’s apartment complex in Pontiac, the Oakland County sheriff’s department said.


“Preying on those in our community who suffer from disabilities will not be tolerated and furthermore, to have the audacity to post their actions on the victim’s page is beyond belief,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a statement. Police have released video of the attack.


Authorities have not released the name of the victim, but Frankie Santana, a resident at the complex, told WJBK-TV that he was the man who was assaulted.

“Why would they do that and put it on Facebook? That’s how you are going to get caught real quickly,” Santana said.


Bouchard credited the work of his investigators for bringing “these two cowards to justice.”


The 20-year-old suspects were arraigned Tuesday on charges including assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, and ordered held on $25,000 bond ahead of a Dec. 8 court date. If convicted, they could be sent to prison for 10 years.


The men didn’t yet have lawyers on record to comment on the case, according to a check of 50th District Court records on Wednesday.


Santana said the men spit and stomped on him, injuring an eye, but that “nothing is broke.” He said he had seen one of the men before, but suspected that they snuck into the apartment complex. “I crawled through the hallway and knocked on someone’s door and that’s how I got help,” Santana told the TV station.


Investigators responding to a report of the assault said they were told the suspects also posted the video to their own Facebook pages. The victim’s phone, which was taken while he was inside his apartment, was found at the home of one of the suspects, the department said.

CARROLLTON (CBSDFW.COM) – Thanks to a tip from the public, Carrollton Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the November 4, 2015 murder of Steve Lehman. Kedric DeShaun Alexander, 35 of Balch Springs is in the Denton County Jail on a charge of Burglary of a Habitation.


Charges of Murder or Capital Murder are pending the results of forensic evidence testing.


Alexander is suspected in the death of Steve Lehman who was found dead in his home at 2058 E. Peters Colony Rd on November 4, 2015.

Investigators believe the suspect broke in to commit a burglary that morning, and encountered Lehman who was still at home. Surveillance video of a suspect vehicle which was made public on November 12, 2015 led to a tip to Carrollton Police. That tip quickly led to Alexander’s arrest.


Alexander is being held on $200,000 bond.

JACKSON, Miss. —A man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison in a 2013 shooting outside a Jackson motel that killed a professional bass fisherman, court officials said.

Shaun Brown, 19, pleaded guilty Nov. 16 to a second-degree murder charge in Hinds County Circuit Court. He was originally charged with capital murder.

Brown was arrested three days after the shooting. Jackson police said at the time that the then-17-year-old confessed to killing James “Jimmy” Johnson in the parking lot of the Motel 6 off Instate 55. But Brown denied the accusations days later as he walked to a court hearing.


Johnson was in town to compete in Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Central Open tournament on the Ross Barnett Reservoir. His family said Johnson was killed after he found someone burglarizing his boat.

Mom beat toddler to death for not eating noodles, prosecutors say

CHICAGO -- An 18-year-old woman who had her battered toddler taken away by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services last year was charged with child endangerment after she allegedly beat the girl so badly for not eating her noodles, she died over Thanksgiving weekend, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

After Jazmine Jones punched Elliana Claiborne four to five times in the stomach and buttocks on Nov. 28, she left her boyfriend's Englewood house to buy weed, Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Kim Przekota said at Jones' bond hearing on Wednesday.

The punches to 2-year-old Elliana's body were so forceful, Jones' boyfriend-who was playing video games at the time-said the blows would have "knocked the wind" out of him, Przekota said.

Jones has had many prior contacts with DCFS, according to prosecutors. Last year Elliana was taken into DCFS custody after Jones threw her off a balcony, causing her to land on the snowy cement ground below, Przekota said.

Jones, who admitted to detectives that she hit Elliana because she was crying and not eating, was the only one in the house to use corporal punishment against her child, Przekota said. Often, depending how frustrated she was, Jones would punch the girl, prosecutors said. DCFS officials were not available for immediate comment.

Jones' boyfriend is not the baby's father. Jones and Elliana lived with Jones' boyfriend's family at the home, in the 6500 block of South Sangamon, Przekota said.

Last weekend, when Jones returned to her boyfriend's home after buying pot, she gave Elliana laxatives and juice, because the child appeared sick, couldn't use the bathroom, had a swollen stomach and complained about stomach pain, Przekota said. Later that evening, Jones' boyfriend's mom asked him to check on Elliana because it sounded as if she took a tumble down the stairs, Przekota said.

The boyfriend found the girl at the bottom of stairs and saw that she was laughing. Still, he told Jones about the possible fall, Przekota said. Jones' boyfriend's mother also told Jones that she should take Elliana to the hospital. Jones didn't listen, Przekota said. That night, Jones' boyfriend took Elliana to his sister's bedroom to sleep. In the middle of the night, Elliana moaned about her stomach and threw up a greenish liquid, Przekota said.

Jones' boyfriend's sister put Elliana back to bed but noticed that the child was lying with her eyes opened, Przekota said. The girl later changed Elliana's diaper and said it appeared as if she was still awake.
The next morning, the sister didn't wake Elliana up right away, because she thought she was sleeping, Przekota said. But the sister returned to the room at 8 a.m. believing Elliana needed a diaper change, given the strong smell of feces, Przekota said. When she picked Elliana up, she saw that the girl, who had soiled herself, was "cold and stiff," Przekota said. Elliana's eyes were opened.

The sister went to tell her mother and Jones' boyfriend, who tried to perform CPR on Elliana, Przekota said. A yellowish liquid came out of the girl's mouth. Jones' boyfriend's mother realized the girl was cold and stiff and didn't have a pulse. Concerned, Jones' boyfriend yelled out to Jones, who was in her bedroom and the baby was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, Przekota said.

Elliana was dead on arrival. Her body temperature was 84 degrees and she was in full rigor mortis, Przekota said. Elliana died of multiple blunt force trauma, specifically injuries caused by a direct blow to the abdomen, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Authorities noted the deep injuries in Elliana's abdomen were not caused by a fall down the stairs or an accident, Przekota said. Elliana also suffered bruises on her head, abdomen, face, back and arms. She had healing burns on her foot, healed scars and two rib fractures.

Judge Laura Sullivan ordered Jones held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Jelani Maraj, 37, was arraigned Thursday on a first-degree rape charge and freed from a Nassau County jail on $100,000 bail. "The victim was someone he had access to," a source close to the case said.

Maraj is due back in court on Dec. 9.

Details about the incident, which was first reported by Newsday, including when it occurred, were not immediately available.

A blogger posted footage of herself having a tantrum outside McDonald’s after being told she would have to wait a little longer for some fresh cookies.


Brandy Wooten, who lives in California, filmed herself at a drive-thru complaining to the manager of the fast food restaurant because her cookies were not ready.


The blogger, who has around 40,000 followers on Facebook, claimed that she called in advance to ensure the food would be prepared for her when she arrived.


But after being told by the manager she would have to wait an extra two minutes, lost her temper and unleashed an unbelievable tirade of abuse. Throughout the video Brandy talks to the manager via the camera on her phone and is asked to pull over and wait for her food.


The manager says: ‘It doesn’t matter if you record, I am being nice to you,’ before asking once again for the blogger to pull over.

After she fails to move her car, the manager, who can be seen attempting to defuse the situation, asks a member of staff to give the customer her money back.


She then asks the woman to leave, who responds by putting her hand out the window and demanding her money back.

The blogger says: ‘Give me my damn money for sure, you got some raggedy ass employees anyway. I don’t want your motherf****** cookies anyway.’


She adds: ‘Give me my money back, give me my motherf****** money back. I’m going to tag your ass too, I’m going to tag your ass on Facebook.’


The manager then turns the tables by filming the blogger on her phone, and she responds by saying: ‘My name is Brandy Wooten, follow me on Facebook. The Brandy hive going up.


‘I really do this, I’m a real blogger though honey. Where’s my money, can I have my money?’


The video concludes with the manager giving the customer her money back as she insults her one last time and vows never to return.

Writing alongside the clip, Brandy said: ‘This video was deleted off Facebook after going viral… I didn’t hurt no one, I didn’t do nothing wrong… #CookiEMonster I just cussed they ass out (sic).

‘Sorry not sorry if I wanted to bake my own I would have but I love McDonald’s cookies I just hate they store can never have s*** together for the sake of the cookie lovers.’

Brandy has been posting videos to her Facebook page since 2013 and touches on topics including relationships and social issues.
