I don't have any illusions about the US or Trump being in control of the various players in the ME, but I fear that we are accidentally on a path for war with Iran.

I think that depends on what Iran does, and I can't see them provoking a war.
They are the big regional winner in Syria -along with shoring up their Shi'a Crescent- and their economy sucks.
so I'm sure they're happy enough with the status quo
