House Republicans schedule vote on healthcare repeal for next week By Russell Berman -

Keeping my eye on this. I really hope to see this monstrosity repealed.

House Republicans plan to fulfill a campaign promise and hold a vote next week on repealing the healthcare reform law.

The incoming House majority leader, Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.), announced Monday that the vote will take place on Jan. 12, one week after Republicans take control of the House.

Republicans will post the legislation Monday night on the website of the House Rules Committee, in keeping with their pledge to post bills at least 72 hours before they come to the floor for a vote. A procedural vote on the bill will occur Friday, Cantor’s office said.

..."the reality is that a repeal of "Obamacare" - the health care overhaul passed earlier this year - is not likely anytime soon, despite the calls for repeal....

...Here's why: To repeal the health care law, both the House and the Senate must pass bills to do so. That takes a simple majority in the both chambers, but there would likely be a filibuster in the Senate - which means it would take 60 votes to get the bill through.

It would them go to President Obama, who would veto it, sending it back to Congress. To override that veto, it would take a two thirds majority in both chambers...

...Now, a repeal situation is possible after the 2012 presidential election if Republicans see massive electoral success in the next two elections and find themselves with the presidency, a comfortable majority in the House and the ability to attract 60 votes in the Senate..."

it'll never happen and i hope the pubs don't waste to much political capital on the issue

i believe it has a good chance of being struck down as unconstitutional, at least the forced mandate part....pubs only have a majority in the house and it isn't a 2/3...they don't have enough votes in the senate and of course obama will repeal it

Well it is yet to be seen...the fucking bill was/is a boondoggle. It is why so many house and senate members lost seats. Then there is that little constitutionality of forced purchase that lingers in the air.

Unfortunately, the health care "reform" would be much worse without the mandate, as a portion of the added costs for insurance companies will be offset by increased revenues from higher enrollment. It's a lose-lose situation.

This is the act of ignorance and partisan terrorism. The bill is an insult to the people of America.

Your false accusations on the health care bill have been thoroughly refuted on this board, yet you continue to parrot lies and propaganda. You are an ignorant moron. You don't know your ass from a hole in the ground.

Nothing against obamacare has been "thoroughly refuted on this board".

In fact a majority of Americans still want this obamanation of a health care bill repealed.

It's always been a partisan bill and that has not changed then or now.

I do not think the republicans actually believe they will get the deed done. However, they can show their constituency that they gave it their best shot. It's poly points for the 2012 elections. Succeed against all the odds, and it'll be a political victory that will vastly trump the "victory" of the dems getting the damned thing passed in the first place.

Fail, and they have a vulnerable democratic party - including the WH resident - to blame for the fiasco. This differs greatly from the democratic "victory" which was bought at the price of having to publicly bribe their own to get it done. The democratic party tried and failed to blame republicans for the messy piece of shit they did pass. The republican party is likely to be successful in blaming democrats for being unable to repeal it.

Additionally, the republicans have another card in their favor - they can strangle the bill without repealing it, refusing to pay for the parts that were supposed to paid through forcing healthy people to pay for the unhealthy while giving trillions of dollars to the very insurance companies democrats have spent much political capital demonizing.

I agree that they do have a responsibility to try- That said, they may well be able to get it passed in the Senate though Obama himself would then still have the power to veto it. Maybe there will be a power play to force his hand-such as a SCOTUS ruling agaisnt the mandates. This could give Obama an opportunity to then actually work with republicans to recreate some real reform and sort of kinda save face.

TERRORISM?!? Promising to repeal a bill is TERRORISM?

Talk about your completely brainless vacuum skulled submoronic emo bullshit. Is that going to be your new emo word of the new decade? Replacing "fascist" with "terrorist"? Fucking droon. The constant smell of donkey shit has rotted that pathetic piece of sludge you laughingly call a brain.

We'll need to wait and see what plays out, but I seriously doubt it'll get through the Senate. As for Obama, I have to admit that he - alone of the democrats - seems to have accepted that the new congress IS a statement from the voters against his agenda - and has accordingly backed off. The compromise worked out with the republican minority bodes somewhat well for how he will react to a republican house. Question is, considering the anger he generated over passing the tax cut extension, is he willing to further alienate those who supported him the most to woo the middle?

I challenge you to debate me on the health care bill Ice Dancer.

For the second time this month, 60% of Likely Voters at least somewhat favor repeal of the national health care law, while the number who expect health care costs to increase is at its highest level since August.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 49% Strongly Favor repeal of the plan. Thirty-eight percent (38%) oppose the law’s repeal, including 29% who Strongly Oppose repeal. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Support for repeal has ranged from 50% to 63% in weekly tracking since the bill became law in late March. Last week, support for repeal was at 55%.

Texas Republican Congressman Pete Sessions compares GOP strategy to Taliban insurgency

Pete_Sessions.jpg

"Insurgency, we understand perhaps a little bit more because of the Taliban, and that is that they went about systematically understanding how to disrupt and change a person's entire processes. And these Taliban -- I'm not trying to say the Republican Party is the Taliban. No, that's not what we're saying. I'm saying an example of how you go about [sic] is to change a person from their messaging to their operations to their frontline message. And we need to understand that insurgency may be required when the other side, the House leadership, does not follow the same commands, which we entered the game with."

Here's the way someone can tell the difference.
*Puts arm around Bfgrn's shoulders*

You can't put your arm around a hole in the ground.

Decided to come back and add to this; because it appears that I hurt Bfgrn's feelings.
He didn't appreciate my humor and he retaliated by "groaning" me.

WOE IS ME.

Obama needs to educate the population regarding the health care bill and counter the attacks and lies from the Repubs.

Every country with government health care results in lower costs. Every country. No exception and the citizens in every country with government health care demand it be provided.

Obama has to get the truth out there. Once the benefits are known the people will overwhelmingly support it.

I expect you meant Obama would veto it?......

Political reality: The GOP simply doesn't have necessary seats to actually just repeal and keep a status quo. In order to do anything they'll need to replace it with different legislation, driving in the public arena the benefits of the new bill until it is popular enough that a veto would sink the future of the current administration.
