Obama: we have asked Iran to return downed U.S. drone

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama on Monday said the U.S. government had requested the return of a spy drone downed over Iran but declined to discuss if its loss could compromise U.S. national security.


"We have asked for it back. We'll see how the Iranians respond," Obama said during a joint news conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki after the two met at the White House.
Obama acknowledged differences between Washington and Baghdad on how to deal with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government's crackdown on pro-democracy demonstrators but said Maliki was acting in Iraq's best interests.


Maliki raised concerns about the risk of sectarian violence in Syria spilling into neighboring Iraq and said he wanted the Syrian situation resolved peacefully.

Dude, it's a drone. They typically don't contain that much in the way of 'secret' technology. Unless it was carrying a Tomahawk, this is just international posturing.
 
Wow, I'm glad they asked and stuff rather than simply blowing it to shreds before they gathered intel on our technologies...

This particular Drone was the six million dollar drone. It contained quite a bit of the technologies we don't want them to have.

$6,000,000 isn't that much. Most of it is materials costs and such, not high tech shit. And even if it did, it's been too long. They can, and almost certainly have, photographed every single thing on it. Why we didn't blow it up, I don't know.

Return a drone? Did anyone return the space ship that crashed in Roswell? Huh, did they? I don't think so! :rant:
 
I vote Iran does what the Russians did when they captured one of our spies, return them in small pieces over time.


Seriously guys, it was in their airspace, they were within their rights to blow it up or bring it down, or fly a man up there to urinate on it. Move on with things.
 
When Obama ran for President he said he was going to talk to the Iranians and make everything nice and everyone in the world would love us. What the hell happened? That darn Obama says the darndest things.
