Obama slaps the left in the face (detainee photo release)

Not everyone has been prosecuted, my dear, Rummy is still running around free is he?

What is being hid, where did this order originate, who are the higher ups in the government that haven't been prosecuted. Most we let a foreign nation kidnap our officials, as Israel did the Nazi criminals in order to get them tried in a court of law?

:blah: Typical dumbkis response, always trying to stifle opinions she disagrees with but when the shoe is on the other foot...

I don't think I'm confused at all. I support release of the photos because the law requires it in the absence of compelling reasons to justify their non-disclosure and, under the circumstances, there is no compelling reason to justify their non-disclosure.

It's fairly straightforward.

Why do you support the government shielding these photos from public consumption?

Why do care about troops, again? From your post here it seems you don't give a shit about their safety

The United States previously owned up to the Abu Grahib scandal several years ago. Investigations were made. People were prosecuted. Policy's were changed. Its like you forget that this entire issue has been addressed and these photos are from THAT era, not last week. All of these photos are years old.

And what did we hear about the scandal then? Just as Blackascoal writes,
The evidence that these barbaric actions were not the result of a "few bad apples" is to be gained.

Weren't we told or led to believe it was a rare occurrence? That nobody in authority knew? The old "handful" designation?

Well, it wasn't so rare, was it? There were "handfuls" all over the place. As you wrote 400 people have been prosecuted. Has that been widely reported?

That's the problem with the whole thing. The story breaks. We're told only a few were involved and it's dropped from public awareness.

Investigations may have been carried out and still ongoing but the public perception is the "handful" have been dealt with. It has to be brought to the public's attention it wasn't just a handful. Hundreds of photos were taken. It was not a one time occurrence by a couple of bad boys.

The rest of the world knows each and every American citizen votes for their government which, in the eyes of the rest of the world, means the majority of US citizens condoned the actions of their government. It's a logical conclusion. It may not be an accurate conclusion but it is a logical one and if not correct where is the outrage?

Where are the citizens demanding the pictures be shown and the people responsible identified and punishment spelled out? If it is against the US citizen's concept of decency where is the outrage?

That's what the rest of the world wants to know. How are the Muslin people 1/2 way around the world supposed to know the US government did something about the atrocities when the average US citizen probably isn't even aware of the number of people involved or the punishment they received?

It's all about perception. Sure, the "crazies" will refer to the pictures to incite people but the moderates, the ones whose hearts we're trying to win, will see that the average US citizen is just as outraged as they are. That's the purpose of showing the pictures and making this as public as possible.

what do these photos have to do with cheney?

What makes you think we cant face up to our sins? No one is ignoring the law the administration is following legal protocol to try and stop the release. He isnt "dictating" presidential fiat here, he's directed his legal staff to take the necessary steps to legally fight the release. Seriously froggie, do you not ever attempt to learn any facts before you reply to posts?

This isnt about torture orders. This is about detainee abuse, we're not talking about captured al queda leaders, we're talking about petty insurgents held in Iraq or captured insurgents from Afghanistan being photographed nude, or made to lay on each other, this is Abu Grahib type stuff, not from professional interrogators but junior enlisted military guards. And over 400 people have been prosecuted. Investigations occurred, and senior commanders were disciplined. This matter has been or is being settled as we speak. Why do you act like nothing has been done? That the last time these photos were released that no action was taken?

This is contradictory. Youre saying that conservatives dont care about soldiers dying, but you specifically say that you really dont care if MORE die because theyre dying anyway? How can you logically write something so illogical in nature and in meaning? Why would you support an action like releasing these photos that will have no effect but to ignite a calming fire, and put US Military personnel at more risk? You would think that you would desire calm and progress so that we can LEAVE these nations?

My argument is the same as yours, that something that you don't agree with is retarded. Mine just happens to be correct. :pke:

Then score one for you and throw yourself a party. I don't give a damn.

Toture ain't torture is an argument I leave to dumb people.

Quite the concept though. Just rename an evil you're accused of as something else and like magic you're now innocent of evil.

Only problem with that thinking is that it only works on dumb people.
