Wait. Don't we have economic and political sanctions in place against Cuba?

Isn't this the equivalent of shaking hands with the white apartheidists who oppressed Mandela?

Because it has been more than fifty years now, the USA has normalised relations with Russia and China

We never "normalized" relations with the Soviet Union until it finally collapsed under the weight of Communism.

As for China, that was political to pit the former Soviet Communists against the Chinese Communists. A brilliant strategy by Nixon wouldn't you say.

But you have not answered my question; what would be the logic in normalizing relations with a brutal repressive Communist dictatorship? Why is it way past time?

My feeling is that we will "normalize" relations when the repressive dictators are thrown out by the "people" and people of Cuba can have a representative Democracy. Why prop up repressive regimes? That makes ZERO sense.

yet still continues its vindictive campaign against Cuba.

Vindictive? Where do you come up with that nonsense? Perhaps you do not comprehend the meaning of "vindictive?"

There is nothing "vindictive" about refusing to prop up a repressive despotic dictatorship. If Canada and other brain dead foolish Western nations wish to trade with this repressive brutal regime, they are free to. The US doesn't stop them. Where does this dullard view that Cubans are suffering ONLY because AmeriKa refuses to do business with them? Do you have any facts to support such hyperbolic blather?

Probably not... I would go to Costa Rica for that

It is just a blatantly outdated policy. There is no reason for the embargo to still be in place.

Why? You do realize that there is not an "embargo". It is only an "American" thing. Other nations are free to do all the trade and tourism they wish with Cuba. Why is it that WE are the reason Cuba suffers under a brutal repressive regime?

How about this; if the brutal repressive dictators step down, OR, the people of Cuba throw off the shackles of despotic dictators, THEN, we will lift OUR embargo and ensure normalized relations. We should even support a major uprising should it occur and assist in overthrowing this brutal dictatorship.

You cannot stand for freedom, and then make nice with brutal regimes. China is a singular exception for global political reasons.

There is nothing left to gain but the status quo of republican big government oppression

There is nothing to gain from any form of Government repression; but it is much more likely with dimwitted Democrats in charge than dimwitted Republicans.

Hilarious. The same people who elevated reagan to sainthood for saying "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" are criticizing Obama for shaking hands with a Castro.
