Obama says if he loses we'll be in for a new, painful era of self-reliance

Correct, that was the reporter's comment. The only time Obama used the word was here: "So we take pride in our individualism and our creativity and our self-reliance."

Transcript of speech.

“The one thing that we absolutely know for sure is that if we don’t work even harder than we did in 2008, then we’re going to have a government that tells the American people, ‘you are on your own,’

He did not use the words "painful era of self-reliance", which was the title of the thread. You probably didn't read the entire transcript, either.

Really? Who gave Jesus all those loaves and fishes to feed the multitude?

Christ instructed his believers to care for one another- that is what the Church still does to this day. He never said to "live off of one another" like some kind of parasites.

The apolistic figures of today still live off of the faithful. That's part of the reason why the laity need to give donations to their local churches and monasteries, as well as to the missions and programs which those institutions are engaged in. From Constantine through the Early Modern period, when Christendom was in full-swing, governments also contributed a great deal, but that's water under the bridge.

I never said that he used those words, and I don't feel the need to read his entire speech. What I quoted basically says that if he's not elected, then 'we are on our own'. This reiterates what I've been saying all along, that liberals fear and hate personal responsibility.

Ah, yes. How did they settle the west? Well, they killed the people who were there and stole their land and resources.

I suppose today's analogy would be kill the wealthy individual, move into their home and collect their dividends and interest and royalties, etc.

i'm thinking you got that a little backwards. It was the wealthy americans that rode in, murdered, then stole the land from the not so wealthy natives.

Thanks for confirming what I've always suspected. You have a visceral reaction to a sound bite and base your opinion on it even when a little research proves it faulty. And we won't even go into the regular sweeping generalizations.
