Obama saves a 1000 jobs at a benefit of $48 million and a cost of $1.1 billion

Can someone show me where in that article it proves "Obama saves a 1000 jobs at a benefit of $48 million and a cost of $1.1 billion"?

I don't see anything wrong with imposing tariffs on underpriced goods imported from other countries, particularly when that country tarrifs our asses off.

Additionally, here in Florida, these places that rent tires and wheels are invariably located in low income neighborhoods and perform a "service" that's as much predatory as payday lenders and rent to own shysters.

Three enterprises the President has worked diligently to regulate and curtail.

Listen to the audio. All those points are clearly stated.

They are in low income neighborhoods because the poor cannot afford to purchase, thanks to the punitive tarriffs.

I'm not going to listen to a podcast. Who, exactly, is making the claim?

For the life of me, I don't recall the poor, prior to the imposition of the tariffs in 2009, running out to buy cheap Chinese tires.

Well then, you won't hear the point made. That does not mean it wasn't made.

Apparently, you don't know what debunked means.

There is no indication in your link that the claim was made by a "conservative group."

I was in error calling the Peterson Group conservative. They claim to he nonpartisan. However, none of this concerns me. The details and monetary claims are miniscule in the big picture.

My question is, why now?

It's not minuscule. The Peterson group did not even include the cost of retaliation by the Chinese, though they mention it in their report, in their figure on costs. Tariffs and protectionism are inefficient and damage our economy.

NPR published this June 21st. Why not now?

It's your normal run of the mill trade disagreement. Happens all the time.

I'm hoping you can tell me why NPR waited until now to dredge up this four year old story. Perhaps they've decided to jump on the irrational Obama-Hate Bandwagon?

I'd also like to point out again that although the practice of renting tires and/or wheels to the poor is relatively new, I doubt this has anything to do with it. The poor were unable to afford a set of new tires prior to the tariff.

Yeah, NPR is a bunch of right wing conservatives. Oookay.

You sound like usf. Maybe, if you listened to the story you would not bother me with questions already answered.

The story starts with a discussion of the new business model of tire renting, traces how the market has come to this and finds steep increases in the price of tires and the tariff. The tariff may have went into effect 4 years ago but its impacts are still with us and likely will be for some time. The report from the Peterson Institute was published in April of 2012 as any such paper would need time to track the results or else it is based on speculation.

That's the last of the spoon feedings I will give.

BTW, Obama claimed credit for this and so he should receive the blame. But I am more interested in trade barriers and protectionism, some of which Romney supported, than the partisan horse shit.

I didn't say that, did I. I'm well aware of what NPR is.

First, I read all the stories. I know what's going on. Nowhere yet do I see a correlation between this and the poor in that the poor are lining up to rent tires. Second, the tariffs are long gone, their effect is minimal. Third, why did NPR (again) wait well over a year to bring up the Peterson study?
