I make off-color comments like that all the time. I'm not that outraged, it doesn't change my support for him.

It's just bizarre that a public figure would ever think such a thing was appropriate. A lot of people ARE going to get outraged.
 
I think he used a poor choice of words to be humorous. He was making a joke about himself and ended up offending some who care about the handicapped. I don't think there was an ounce of maliciousness intended. So what? I wish I could say that I have never opened my big mouth and said the wrong thing. :cof1:

The Comedian Ralphie May tells a joke about getting bleeped on the tonight show for using the word "retard". He was told that the word retard was offensive. His response was "to who?" Now granted he should have said "to whom" but word usage aside, he said that retards are not offended by the word, and if they are, they probably aren't that retarded. His point was we are far to PC in this country, when someone attempted to demean themselves and ended up offending 100 people in this country and it turned into this kind of outrage, the PC army has become too strong, and actually co-opted some right wingers in the process, cuz it suited them. It really is time people on the right and left stopped being so thin skinned and offended so easily.

Exactly. He wasn't trying to put them down. In fact its a good character trait, imo, when you can make fun of yourself as he did.
