Obama Lowers Debate Expectations ‘Because of the Demands of His Office’

President Obama will head to Henderson, Nev., on Sunday for three days of debate prep behind closed doors, ABC News has learned. While he is there he will also hold one grassroots rally and likely make some unscheduled local stops in the evening, a campaign official said.

Meanwhile, less than a week before Obama and GOP nominee Mitt Romney face-off in Denver, the debate expectations game is in full swing.

Team Obama is laying it on heavy that the president may be the less-prepared candidate because of the demands of his office.

“The President will have a little bit of time to review and practice before the debates, but he has had to balance the management of world events, governing, time out campaigning and will have less time than we anticipated to sharpen and cut down his tendency to give long, substantive answers,” Obama campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki told ABC News.

I could see this as being plausible if the guy ever actually worked. Seriously, the guy has been in campaign mode for three years, has time to chat with the washed-up Letterman, the idiots from The View, talk football, basketball, play golf, and hang out with Jay-Z and Beyonce, among assorted other celebutards. So, um, when does he actually work? Now we’re to believe he’s too busy to prepare for debates?

Really, though, what are they worried about? He could go fetal and pee on himself and the media will tell us he won hands down, the race is over, Romney’s an idiot, etc. The media is so clearly in the tank for him, nothing Romney can do will budge them off message.

Seems they’re more worried the American people will see him for the lying failure he is.

Oh let's just get it out of the way now. No matter what happens at the debates the stenographers in the lame stream media will claim that not only did OWEdummy win, but he is the best debater of all times and will surge in a poll overweighted by 40% towards dems

He'll be less than prepared because he's busy preparing for the View and avoiding foreign leaders.

He didn't avoid foreign leaders. He attended an evening reception with them on 09/24 and spoke to the General Assembly on 9/25.

He did decide an interview on the View was more important than the traditional one on one meetings with foreign leaders. That is pathetic given the state of the world economy, not to mention the ever increasing turmoil in the ME

A party at the Waldorf and giving a speech is meeting with with foreign leaders ?.....

Gotta give you the 'perfect apologist award' for grasping at lame excuses.....good job.

Hey, RacistX, the article says "Campaigns" plural. Did you not see that right in the title.

It talks about how both sides are lowering expectation for their candidate.

Try again, sparky.

But thanks for playing.

Is there a formal WH tradition and protocol for meeting foreign leaders that Obama broke with?

Gotta give you the perfect hack award for making something out of nothing.

You're ticked off because Obama didn't meet with the leaders when and how you thought he should. I'll be sure to phone him with your concerns.

Yes. Traditionally when heads of State all come to NY for the UN hoohaa, the President meets with many of them on a one on one basis.

It wasn't a State visit, it was the opening of the 67th session of the General Assembly. The day before the 63rd session, bush flew to a fundraiser in NJ. He did the very same thing Obama did.

Yeah, a little....An ambassador along with 3 others murdered....embassys under siege and rioting against the US in 20 countries....just about the entire ME in
and uproar.....and Obama goes on The View, meets with the Pimp with a Limp and refuses to meet with the heads of state of the countrys involved....
especially Isreal, our ONLY true ally in the entire region.....so.....yeah....it ticks me off some......
Not the mention the brouhaha that would be going on if the President was G Bush.....

Speaking of hacks.....You picked a loser and bring yourself to admit to that obvious fact....

The Middle East wasn't on the verge of a rampage then....and as you say it was the day before the opening of the session...
Not quite the same thing is it........that doesn't mean he didn't meet with some
heads of state at all.....

I don't blame him one bit over Netanyahu. Bibi has the gall to demand that the US set an ultimatum with Iran, well he can GFH. Pretty funny that you think Obama should bow to this foreign leader.

If bush did so, then cite. What he might have done doesn't cut it. And regarding Netanyahu:

"... White House spokesman Jay Carney said this of an alleged snub: "The president will be in New York at the United Nations General Assembly early in that week; the prime minister does not arrive until later in that week. There was not logistically an opportunity for the two leaders to meet in New York. A meeting was never requested in Washington, therefore it could not have been denied."

We found many similar news reports from other news outlets. The New York Times, for example, reported that Netanyahu’s office had requested a meeting sometime during the United Nations General Assembly, but that it wasn’t possible due to scheduling. According to the article, the White House said that after "a possible New York encounter was ruled out, Mr. Netanyahu did not request a meeting in Washington" and that the scheduling conflict "had been conveyed to Israel long ago."

In response to questions from PolitiFact, Vietor emailed us: "Bottom line is that Obama is in New York Monday and Tuesday of this week. Netanyahu is here Thursday (and) Friday because of the holidays," he wrote, referring to Yom Kippur, which starts Tuesday night and continues Wednesday. "In other words, they're not in the city at the same time, which makes having a meeting a logistical challenge."
