Poorly designed. And the Republicans are focusing on radical ideological legislation they know will never pass. They don't bother to talk to the senate or the president and work out something that's amenable to both sides. Apparently, to "do something" consists of running a sideshow for the entertainment of your base without considering whether or not it will get something done, and to "do nothing" is to fail to unquestioningly pass this nonsense that clearly wasn't written with you in mind and wasn't even meant to be passed. The senate is not the intended audience of this circus. If they did pass any of this nonsense, I think the shocked Republican leader would have to pull Reid to the side and say "Dude, you're crazy, we didn't really ever intend for that stupid shit to become law, we were just trying to score points amongst the proles."

Everyone in Washington uses a teleprompter for all of their speeches. I imagine that every president since the invention of the device has used it, and before that, they read from scripts, they didn't memorize. How is that any more "genuine"? Why on Earth does the right single Obama out and pretend that his use of the teleprompter is a unique and unprecedented act of falsity?

Yep, if that paper spontaneously combusted, his speaking would have to be suspended. It is very unlikely that he's memorized the speech. Also, having paper burst into flames in your hand is a disconcerting event, and even if he did simply ignore it and continue speaking as if nothing had happened, people would probably think he was odd.
