Obama: If you got a business, you didn't build that!

I don't suppose you could provide a little more context than that provided by a 7 second video?

Seems like Damo gets his "news" from FOX and Friends. duh.
Fox News this morning deceptively edited President Obama's remarks to make it seem as though he was claiming that small business owners do not deserve any credit for their own success. But Obama's actual remarks show that he attributed the success of small businesses to both the individual drive of small business owners, and to the benefit provided by influences such as great teachers, and government-created infrastructure.

President Obama, during a July 13 appearance in Roanoke, VA, argued that while small business owners' individual talents and drive allow them to attain their own portion of the American dream, credit for such attainment is not theirs alone. Obama pointed out that the success of small businesses can also be attributed to outside influences such as "a great teacher somewhere in your life" and investment "in roads and bridges."

But on the July 16 edition of Fox & Friends, the co-hosts cropped the clip of Obama's appearance to make it appear as though he was making a different point. The clip featured Obama saying:

Gretchen Carlson reacted by calling the grossly misleading clip "most startling," before hosting a small business owner who switched her political allegiance from Obama in 2008 to GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney in 2012.

Yup. Fair and balanced misinformation!

"If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help," Obama said. "There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen."

The antecedent to "that" is not the business, but "roads and bridges," as well as the "American system" as a whole.

"The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together," Obama said.

And this is what all the Liberals are hollering that Obama was talking about... he meant "roads and bridges!"

When he shut down oil production in the gulf... did THAT have anything to do with roads and bridges?

When he refused to sign off on the Keystone Pipeline? did it have anything to do with roads and bridges?

When he is using executive orders to restrict and prohibit private sector enterprise? that has to do with roads and bridges?

What about Obamacare? roads and bridges?

And where the hell are these roads and bridges needed? Who the hell has a place they can't get to because they need a road? Or a river they can't get across because there is no bridge? And what the fuck do you suppose people did BEFORE Obama, if such a problem existed? lay down and DIE?

A 7 second sound bite, Damo. :( Has it come down to this?
That's right apple. It comes down to this when Hussein's off the teleprompter. I think in his heart of hearts he wants to go there, as the man eats, sleeps and drinks government. The private sector is a nuisance to the president and it just gets in his way.

Yes, apple, this clip is very telling.

Why did he do that?

When he refused to sign off on the Keystone Pipeline? did it have anything to do with roads and bridges?
He refused to be forced to sign necessary legislation that also rubber stamped Keystone. There is no benefit to this country, if Keystone it extended to Texas.
When he is using executive orders to restrict and prohibit private sector enterprise? that has to do with roads and bridges?
Specifics?

Businesses were typically localized. People in the East had no produce during the winter.

Is that what you desire?

Why did he do that?

To restrict competition against his crony capitalism venture in so called Green Energy

He refused to be forced to sign necessary legislation that also rubber stamped Keystone. There is no benefit to this country, if Keystone it extended to Texas.

Guess we don't need any more jobs in this country....Take a look at North Dakota...It's unemployment where the oil is being exploited is 1%....

Specifics?

It's public record...look it up.

Businesses were typically localized. People in the East had no produce during the winter.

What a bunch of bull shit! You obviously don't know a damned thing about how goods are, or have been moved in this country.

Is that what you desire?

No, but it is obviously what progressives desire...A system where political allies in business are rewarded while businesses that don't are taxed out of business.

Why are you trying to debate things that don't relate to the topic? The Obama gave a speech in which he said, if you have a biz, you didn't build that yourself... it was the result of all the great and wonderful shit government provided along the way.... Pinheads claim he meant "roads and bridges." I've asked what the hell all of his anti-capitalist actions have to do with roads and bridges, and you want to try and debate the representative examples given to make that point. And I also asked where the hell do we need roads and bridges, and where are the idiots who have this as their top priority right now? And your response appears to be something akin to what a child might say in explaining a fairy tale they heard. I realize a lot of people find history boring and hard to understand sometimes, but you really should invest some time and study the history of capitalist free enterprise in America. Most of the necessary roads and bridges were (and still are) built by capitalists. It's an amazing thing when you unbridle and unleash capitalism and the entrepreneurial spirit of mankind, great things happen.

he forgot the lunch ladies who made creamed beef on toast every Thursday for your lunch.....

I attended a newly built regional high school. Nice cafeteria. In one corner there was an ice cream freezer and a very pleasant gentleman selling popsicles and fudgesickles, etc. One day the man and freezer were gone and further inquiry led to finding out the "etc" was drugs. That explained the constant smile on the gentleman's face.

Yes, apple, this clip is very telling.

Telling, for sure. Unfortunately, it's telling for the TV station/poster who edited it. When one sentence is taken out of a speech, without any accompanying context, it's a sad day. :(

To restrict competition against his crony capitalism venture in so called Green Energy
moron

Keystone offers a few thousand temp jobs. So would repairing the crumbling infrastructure, x 10,000.

For the same govt. subsidy that Keystone would require.

It's public record...look it up
.not interested. No such thing exists.

What a bunch of bull shit! You obviously don't know a damned thing about how goods are, or have been moved in this country.
Right. Why don't you explain how produce was delivered from Fla. to NY before the govt. built highways.

No, but it is obviously what progressives desire...A system where political allies in business are rewarded while businesses that don't are taxed out of business.
Not even worth a response.

It's true. You don't get there on your own and if your taking a disproportionate precentage of the pie you be an idiot to not expect that those who produce won't fight your for their fair share of that pie.

Amen, brother, an idea, no matter how great, doesn't get anywhere without people to implement it.

moron

The government didn't build highways fool.....the citizens did,..with their hard earned money and their hard strong backs
Just like the rail system was.
Government support, in the form of officers from the Army Corps of Engineers - the nation's only repository of civil engineering expertise - assisted private enterprise in building nearly all the country's railroads. Thats STILL us citizens....
The rich businessmen of the those days WERE the government for all intents and purposes, creating laws and commissions to control the business activities with various
regulations......in short...Obamas speech was stupid and showed a naive and shallow understanding of what made this country grow....

so they're raising a different type of entrepreneur for the future......

You introduced the bullshit, and I'm here to address same.

Now, do you wish to back up your assertions?

Nope... I am going to wait until November, where my assertions will be confirmed by the American people.

If you want to discuss Obama's comments, we can. If you want to be a myopic jerk, and dissect commentary for the purpose of being obtuse, I'll pass.
