Obama: gay partners should have hospital access

I don't understand these stupid rules to begin with. Shouldn't people in those circumstances be able to have whomever they wish with them in the room? I don't care if it's Auntie Pogo or their boyfriend, girlfriend, the guy/girl they've been cheating with, their next door neighbor, their sister's ex college roommate, Darth Vader, Richard Simmons, Dr. Phil, some random stranger they just met... I just don't care, the patient should be able to have whomever they want visit them.

The hospital shouldn't be deciding this kind of thing, nor legislators. There can be no group less capable of "helping" me make this decision than those in government.
You're not a doctor or hospital administrator. Leave the policy up to the experts.

Bull. I want whom I want in the room, it's none of their business. Flatly none. "Administrators" of a business have no say in whom I want to see nor do bureaucrats and their ilk. Legislators think they "know" better than I do who I might want to be there with me when I die?

Total hogspittle.

There is no time in your life where what you want has more standing than what some ignoramus with a title has to say. Let them limit the number of visitors, but whomever I want in the room should be allowed it is stupid to limit it to people I may despise just because they are "family"...

Then I suggest you run your own hospital. Or you use Hospice and die at home, then you can invite anyone that you want.

Or I can make it so the hospital has no choice but to allow whomever I wish to visit me. I prefer that as it may be that I may be forced to use a hospital at some point in my life.

I'll have to get a list of hospitals run by the retarded so I can avoid them.

I always find it repugnant to the point of near physical illness when people who preach personal liberty cheer stupid policy because it suits their "icky" bone without the understanding that stupid policies like this can hurt them too.

I don't know of any hospital that wouldn't allow whomever I wished, but these stupid administrators who think that they know my comfort and emotions better than myself need to take a hike. I hope they all lose lawsuits and their hospitals are closed. "Care" like that has no place among humans.

You can always go to a different hospital who has a policy to your liking, or as I said before use the Hospice option if you're on your death bed. Let the market work.

/shrugs....I agree with Damo....fuck the experts.....do you really think I'm going to be sicker if a friend visits me instead of Mom?....
Exactly. I'm the one dying, I will know far better than some stranger with a title who will help comfort me.

I despise people who cheer on limits to freedom so that they can "sanctify" others whether they want it or not.

If it is the "market" that is at work they need to publicize a list of hospitals run by the retarded so we can all avoid them.

Or even better, we can push to have the rules changed to give the patient more freedom and more say in their own medical care. (which would include who gets to visit)

Post 287 my friend.

It would be better for those who want a nanny-state or are paranoid about homosexuality to have their own hospitals.

It has no effect on you if a hospital allows each individual to decide who visits and who does not.

Liability for what? I'd sue if they kept out people I loved to ensure I only saw people who were related.
Damo I don't pretend to know the purpose of this policy, for this particular hospital. Why don't you find out what their reasoning is before you run to the government to change it?

Who said anything about legislation? I know better who will lend me a hand up rather than increase my stress and hold back my healing. The policy is stupid. As a hospital it is their responsibility to ensure I have the best chance to heal, not force me to spend time when I am least capable of it with people I may despise simply because of proximity of bloodline. Yes, I would sue, as this isn't providing the best care for people.

(This isn't personal, I don't personally hate my family. Imagine a young woman dying of breast cancer, stuck in a room with the man who raped her for years simply because he is the only "blood" relative available while her best friend is stuck outside unable to lend comfort.)

Of course you're talking about legislation. Unless you want Obama to do an illegal Executive Order. The hospital is going to do what they want otherwise.

Don't give me a bleeding heart theoretical. Only a lib-tard does that.

Rubbish. It doesn't take legislation for me to sue for their poor policy that caused my healing to be more painful solely for some stupid bloodline proximity rule based in some ancient "tradition" that I don't follow. I'd also sue for, say, my sister who isn't married to her closest compadre who wouldn't be admitted while I would solely because of "relative" status. If she thought having her beau in there with her would make her heal better and have less stress then I would do whatever I could to make it happen.

Only idiots who don't think of unintended consequences never think of what may come from the decisions they support, this isn't about "liberal" or "conservative" this is about people. When and if you are dying I certainly hope you can have whomever you want in the room rather than being forced to serve time in emotional as well as physical pain rather than live your last moments in some form of comfort and joy.
