Obama Warns US Will Go "Bankrupt" Without Health Care Bill

ABC: The president said that the costs of Medicare and Medicaid are on an “unsustainable” trajectory and if there is no action taken to bring them down, “the federal government will go bankrupt.”

not only that, but right at the end of the 1 minute video the liar has the nerve to claim that without this h/c bill, h/c will consume the entire federal budget....this guy is nothing but a fraud....even howard yeehaw dean is against the current version of the h/c bill....

obama's dishonesty and fear mongering on this is atrocious....

1) They would bankrupt the country if nothing is done to correct them

2) They are not likely to consume the budget, but the percentage increase in their budgetary consumption is not sustainable and ties back into number one.

3) That said, the current health care bill would only ADD to the problem, so in passing it we would simply be hastening the destruction.

there is no way it is going to bankrupt the country....those programs would simply dissolve, not the country....you of all people should know this

It is not as easy as 'they would just dissolve'. The country would go into chaos if we just dissolved Medicare and Medicaid.

If the government promises certain care that taxpayers have been paying into for 40+ years and then it removes it entirely... they are in default.

no, if the country is bankrupt, it either ceases all operations or goes into a restructuring plan....most often the governmental entity ceases to exist

just because the government has to shut down a couple of programs, doesn't mean the entire government is bankrupt...

um yes yurt... that is exactly what bankruptcy is....

If the government defaults on any obligation, then how do you trust it in any future endeavors?

Chapter 11 is a form of bankruptcy where you RESTRUCTURE your organization (in this case, it would be the government).

When people pay into medicare and social security, the government is standing behind those programs and saying we will get what we paid for... just as they do behind the bonds they issue.

so you are actually claiming that one default equals bankruptcy....that defaulting on TWO programs equals bankruptcy....

if medicare and SS cease to exist.....the government of the united states of america will not be bankrupt.....

default does not equal bankruptcy....do you really need me to do the research for you?

so you think the government can simply choose to stop paying on whatever they feel like and it doesn't result in bankruptcy????

The entire monetary system would collapse if they tried to do so. The dollar would be worthless because NO ONE would trust the US government.

The same holds true if they were to not pay a treasury bond as it matured.

They CANNOT simply choose what they want to pay and what they don't want to.
