WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says the U.S. would not consider Egypt an ally, ‘‘but we don’t consider them an enemy.’’

Obama said in an interview with the Spanish-language network Telemundo that Egypt is a ‘‘new government that is trying to find its way.’’ And he warned that if the Egyptian government takes actions showing ‘‘they’re not taking responsibility,’’ then it would ‘‘be a real big problem.’’

Meanwhile, protesters angered by an anti-Islam film stormed the U.S. Embassy compound in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa on Thursday. They were on the embassy’s grounds but did not enter the building housing the offices. Demonstrators removed the embassy’s sign on the outer wall and set tires ablaze. Once inside the compound, they brought down the U.S. flag and burned it.

Yemen is home to al-Qaida’s most active branch and the United States is the main foreign supporter of the Yemeni government’s counterterrorism campaign. The government on Tuesday announced that al-Qaida’s No. 2 leader in Yemen was killed in an apparent U.S. airstrike, a major blow to the terror network.

Great diplomacy... Obama is a foreign policy pro... just ask him... he will tell you its true.

Clearly. I hear he's trying to back it out now, but I haven't seen any statements. My favorite bit was when he gave the PM of England DVDs that he couldn't even play as they are incompatible with UK DVD players... and giving back the bust of Churchill. Those are gems.

Saying, "We'll see, it depends on how much the nation gets behind the games." is a HUGE insult, but sending back a gift not so much, eh? Now... back to the topic. Egypt, an ally since 1989, can't be thinking this is a good thing.

The best thing about the Churchill bust thing is that it's a total fabrication. I'm not shocked that you believe it to be true.

Also, too, while it is true that Egypt is officially designated a major non-NATO ally and has held the designation since 1989, I don't think it is crazy to suggest that notwithstanding that designation granted while Hosni Mubarak was president is not automatic under a new regime, particularly where the politics of Egypt are less than stable.

He is a birther, what do you expect! ;)

Wow. And you say that I don't have the information...

Even the WH dude who said it was a fabrication now is apologizing to Krauthammer. The bust really did go back to England.

Um, the bust went back to England. I never said otherwise. But it wasn't a gift. It was a loan from Blair to Bush. When Bush left the Presidency, the loan ended. There is another bust of Churchill that was actually a gift from the British Embassy during LBJ's tenure. That bust of Churchill remains in the White House:

Says James Barbour, press secretary and head of communications for the British Embassy, “The bust of Sir Winston Churchill, by Sir Jacob Epstein, was lent to the George W. Bush administration from the U.K.’s government art collection, for the duration of the presidency. When that administration came to an end so did the loan; the bust now resides in the British Ambassador’s Residence in Washington D.C. The White House collection has its own Epstein bust of Churchill, which President Obama showed to Prime Minister Cameron when he visited the White House in March.”

So, yeah, total fabrication and you don't have the information.

Actually, if you went to the link you'd see that information there... Actually I find that apologia a bit much to believe. Considering the fact that the Brits offered to let him keep it, but he said no... I'd say that yeah, he didn't appreciate that special relationship. It seems that you don't have all the information, and just accept whatever excuse the people who did it have to give you...

It is a stupid non issue that conservatives like to give more play than it deserves. The WH had a bust of Churchill, why do they need two? Good grief, this is petty. So are the gifts he gave to the Queen, there are far more important things to criticize.

Let's review. You said it was a "gift" and that Obama returned the "gift." I said that was a fabrication. I then said that the Churchill bust was a loan from Blair to Bush and that the loan ended and the bust was returned. In support of your "gift" claim, you post an article that confirms pretty much everything I said and that does not support the "gift" claim one iota.

Pretty standard from you.

He is naturally conditioned to apologize for all Dem mistakes and to regurgitate the excuses his masters force feed him.

Not to cons there aren't. They are in meltdown mode because Obama has somehow turned the who do you trust on foreign policy question on its head. I've never seen these numbers. Since Vietnam and the right wing propaganda which followed, Americans have believed that Democrats are soft on foreign policy and Republicans strong.

Add to that Mitt's bumbling I'm a buffoon overseas tour, and his performance yesterday...yeah, they're grasping, desperately, at anything.

This is the best that they have. Churchill busts and DVDs. Incorrect pictures as backdrops. Teleprompter jokes. It's embarrassing.

I'm so old I remember when Democrats cowered in fear of the Republican message machine and now it's a complete joke.

dung is really caught up in the dem apology mode. making a huge semantic deal about gift vs. loan when the offered to let obama keep it for another four years....yeah...really big distinction for this issue.

I know, remember the Rove days? Another overrated white guy for sure. Andrew Sullivan posted today that if the election were held today Romney would have an 8.1% chance of winning and called it a complete meltdown. Yesterday he said Romney's statement was disqualifying. I am not a fan of his, but it's all very interesting to watch.

The bold is awesome. I'm going to try that with my mortgage lender. Gift? Loan? Whatever.

Also, too. I love how I'm "Polly" and an "apologist" for stating the truth while the guy that is lying about what actually happened and is regurgitating bullshit Republican talking points is supposedly the truth-teller.

Awesome.

And Romney questioning there readyness just prior to the Olympic games was a stroke of forign policy brilliance?
