Hard to believe - I keep hearing what an awful President he is on here...

Because he's not done very well. He can thank Trump for this bump.
I am sure his approval numbers are fairly low...with the usual dim bulb partisan hacks, that is.
With ordinary, rational minded folk he's quite popular.
"Not done very well"
Obama:
Saved the country from W's recession.
Brought both unemployment numbers and the stock market back to pre-crash levels.
Kept gas prices reasonable for Mr and Mrs America.
Enacted healthcare legislation enabling MILLIONS of uninsured to get treatment they needed.
ROFL!!
As I have always said, history will treat him as one of the greats. Simply being the first non-white man does that.
He's not very popular over here!!
When your able to pick yourself of the floor feel free to discuss that this has been an extremely slow historical recovery from recession. Unless you are going to try and argue this is the "new normal" economic growth we are to expect in this country going forward.
You clearly chose to leave foreign policy out and the disastrous effects pulling out of Iraq prematurely had, what we did in Libya and then Syria.
Gas prices? Ok. We've had a huge boom in fracking which has been beneficial. Are you claiming his administration pushed policies for that? Because many of your fellow liberals would love to see fracking banned.
And we're only beginning to see the downsides of Obamacare as it becomes fully implemented but that is a whole other long discussion in and of itself.
A "slow" recovery is better than NO recovery...but you and the others go right on complaining about that 5% unemployment.
You clearly ignored the disastrous effects of heading INTO Iraq, a country that had NOTHING to do with 9/11.
The USA currently produces MORE OIL DOMESTICALLY than at any time in our history.
You're making up an excuse for the poor economic recovery. The number and results don't lie. What you're missing from the unemployment rate is the low participation rate and the quality of the employment. Again, why would the Fed be so afraid to raise rates from basically zero if the economy were on solid footing?
Yes going into Iraq was a disaster but that aside he is judged in what he did while in office and his decision in Iraq, along with others in the ME, made things much worst.
You're giving a President more power over a global economy than he has. Much more.
Obama did what he could on the economy. He turned it around; the private sector has to take over at that point. You're also putting gas prices on him.
The #'s do not lie. Americans are giving him a pretty high approval rating at this stage of his tenure. Personally, I like having a leader who is intelligent, thoughtful and handles crisis situations with calm & resolve, and Obama has given me that pretty much every time.
President's always get more credit/blame than they should for the economy.
It doesn't change the fact that this has been an historically bad recovery. And he deserves blame for passing legislation (Dodd-Frank) that has played a major role in handcuffing the private sector.
We all have personal qualities we like in leaders but looking at his record he will not have a high ranking in history.
Barak Obama will go down in history as one of the great presidents
