Can't say I've heard of a Tuff Shed but there's a link to them at the site. Interesting concept for attacking the homeless problem of the City. Anyone seen these used where they live?

Oakland approves plan to house homeless in Tuff Sheds

The City of Oakland has approved an ordinance that will allow Oakland to temporarily house some of the city's 2,761 homeless people in prefab Tuff Sheds, moving them current homeless encampments to a designated site in the city.

"We have to build more affordable housing," Mayor Libby Schaaf told local news station KTVU."We cannot wait for those new structures to be built. We have to take action now. This is a very temporary measure but it allows people to get off of the sidewalk."

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf initially said she'd like to get three "Navigation Center" sites, which will have staff managers during the day, security, fencing and toilets, up before the rainy winter weather hits. But the City Council has only approved funding for one site, at a cost of $450,000 a year for the City of Oakland to house 80 people. Each shed can house two homeless residents.

"The vote was 6 to 0 with two supervisors absent. The City Council also adopted a two-year ordinance declaring a shelter crisis in Oakland, which will, according to the mayor's office, allow more flexibility to build and provide public facilities for unsheltered residents," KTVU reports.

The city is now appealing to the public to help fund more of the structures and sites. Here's a quick peek at what the average Tuff Shed looks like.
