if there is no connection in the community its just a bulls eye. kids dont want to learn, kids that might are subject to peer pressure an parent(s) couldnt care less.
we have two high schools and this is in the burbs but very different burbs, one is now dirty and looks 2 or 3 times its age and the other still has the new school smell. no new schools in the city as student populations only decline. but the ones that became Governors schools, for advanced study, still look renovated while the rest continue to fade.
I have seen children from the project when taken and given a quality education blossom. When they have teachers who have the resources and the respect for them, they thrive. There are many children who do want to learn and want different circumstances, there are indeed those who don't want to learn because they don't see the point because of the economic conditions that surround them.
Generational poor don't have hope and when you rob them of hope and they have no where else to turn they turn to the ways that they think will make them easy money.
It is because you still see race and judge people by the color of their skin, if you drop that, I will drop calling you a racist.
