”GOP Reps. mull legislation to protect presidents from politically motivated probes”

“Top House Republicans said in a letter Saturday that they're considering legislation to protect current and former presidents from politically motivated prosecutions in response to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's investigation into former President Trump.”

“Because the federal government has a compelling interest in protecting the physical safety of former or current Presidents, any decision to prosecute raises difficult questions concerning how to vindicate that interest in the context of a state or local criminal justice system," the letter states.”

"For these reasons and others, we believe that we now must consider whether Congress should take legislative action to protect former and/or current Presidents from politically motivated prosecutions by state and local officials, and if so, how those protections should be structured."

I thought Barr using the AG position and DOJ to defend Trump was bad, but now the Trumpkins want to use the legislative power of Congress to protect their Messiah. When Trump said he could literally shoot someone in broad daylight and not lose voters he wasn’t kidding

And the real irony here is that the only person to say Trump was going to be indicted was Trump. Prior to him shooting off his mouth none these ass kissers showed any real concern over Barr nor his case. It is totally an orchestrated strategy designed in MaraLogo aimed at discrediting any effort to hold Trump responsible for anything, to put him above the law

That's also Netanyahu's scheme in Israel. He has almost destroyed what is loosely termed ' democracy ' in Israel in order to insulate himself from prosecution for fraud.
It seems fashionable among despots.

Damn - and with all the work you Nazis have put into turning America into a 3rd world shithole where the opposition is imprisoned or killed...

You must be outraged.

Wait a minute, what prosecution of any politician isn’t labeled “politically motivated” by that politician’s advocates? Who defines “politically motivated,” Jimmy Jordan?

So now in addition to proving the accused is guilty in front of a jury the prosecutor now has to prove he isn’t pursuing the case I guess infront of another jury that the case isn’t “politically motivated,” welcome to MAGA America

In the footprints of Netanyahu.

Exactly. The "political motivation" could as easily be not to prosecute a crime. If the underlying facts support the existence of a crime that is all that should matter. Congress is seldom if ever in a position to assess the underlying facts and politicians moreover should not be given that position.

Oh I couldn't agree more. It works for deciding to prosecute as well as for deciding not to. We see both happening at the present time.
