The EU yesterday dealt a devastating blow to Nicola Sturgeon's new bid for independence - by ruling out any prospect of Scotland retaining its EU membership when Britain leaves. The SNP leader yesterday said she is seeking 'immediate discussions' with Brussels to 'protect Scotland's place in the EU'. But The Scottish Mail on Sunday can reveal that the European Commission, the executive body of the EU, has already ruled there is no option but the whole of the UK exiting following Thursday's shock Leave vote.

( Sturgeon) said she would be talking to officials in Brussels over the next few days about how best to achieve this. She previously mentioned that she would seek direct talks with the EU leadership and presumably with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, European Council President Donald Tusk and the president of the European Parliament Martin Schulz in the coming week.

On Saturday, Sturgeon said that steps were being taken on holding a possible second UK independence referendum, saying that it was “clearly an option” and that it was “very much on the table.”

"To ensure that that option is a deliverable one in the required timetable, steps will be taken now to ensure that the necessary legislation is in place," she said

the eu wants more countries like great britain not like scotland which would just be another greece.

They have discovered the harsh realities of the world, the EU won't just let them in out of pity, they will have to follow the rules and apply the same as Albania, Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey. I doubt they would get in before 2020 and they would have to accept the Euro. The EU won't want to repeat the disaster of Greece, so they will crawl all over the books.

Greece wasnt just caused by accounting. There really is no scenario where the same currency would be suited for both greece and germany.

Farage was right when he said that if the Euro was just a Northern European currency (france germany belgium etc) it might have worked but not when you tack on the poorer economies.

Of course a euro of only northern economies would mean a very high value for the euro which is what germany was trying to avoid.

Their entry into the Euro was caused accounting, due to Goldman Sachs cooking the books to get them in!
