No one wants to cut spending

Take everything back to 2007 levels (adjusted for inflation). Then cut defense by a 1/3 for starters. Next look to cut the $500B in waste Obama identified within Medicare.

Simplification of the tax code would go a long way towards reducing the influence of special interest groups/corporations on the actions of the idiots in DC.

In addition we need to start hammering at our respective governors and state reps... time to end the rigged House seats. No more safe seats. That might help to get rid of a lot of the extremists from left and right.

Washington DC is living in a bubble of its own making.....DC never felt the full effects of the economic bust....the housing market there is good as it ever was....
they give themselves raises even though their pay is far above the rest of the nation for comparable work....gov. workers retire with 6 figure incomes and then
hire out as consultants and contractors because they have high clearances....they're are personally ignorant of the real world outside of the District.

You think DC is bad with there wages? Have a look at Canberra (Australia).. Our PM in a population 1/15th the size of the US gets paid more!! o.0

Gillard : $495,430 AUD
Obama : $380,488 AUD

In all seriousness though, Programs that go way over budget should just be scrapped and go and buy off the shelf products. All to often programs will go over budget by massive percentages and they just keep pouring more money in, Sadly that is a problem that many share (Australia tried using 70's era choppers with modern equipment, $1 billion later and a few years they scrapped it with no choppers delivered).

Best option for the defense side of things is to look at your minimum requirements, Ensure that you meet that and then you work out what extra assets you can afford to maintain within reason. Off top of my head minimum requirements would need less then half your current equipment, Allowing extra stuff and you could end up cutting 10-25% of the DoD budget and still be able to kick ass.

The only system that will work in the future is a work bases system. For contrast most people today know that, "Men wearing helmets to protect the defensive line" should get payed less than the, "Men wearing helmets to protect our families and our freedom" ......or did equality actually kick in while reading that?
 
Eventually superficial jobs will be valued less and necessary jobs will be valued more.

So we can conclude that you were also being "dishonest" by not mentioning that BOTH parties did not support the CRA in your title.
