No one but bigots would notice mosque

what was the % of Americans that didn't want this? like 80%? ohh 80% of country must be bigots.

Yah we should have built a giant Japanese memorial at Perl harbor within 10years of that attack. if we didnt want to do that then we would be racists.

Thanks to Fox News, Drudge, and the wingnutosphere, a lot if not most americans probably have the impression that this mosque is actually being built right on ground zero, and presumably as a "trophy" dedicated to islamic victory and supremecy. Which is patently false in all respects. Its not even on "ground zero".

This wouldn't even be a news story, if the whole story had been flogged by wingnuts and a bunch of false allegations routinely repeated in cyberspace and on TV.

In short, what people might be "outraged" or offended about is a figment of their imagination; or of the obvious dishonesty of the wingnutosphere.

Chap, did american muslims attack us on 9/11? Indeed, did the religion of Islam attack us?

No?

Then you and a bunch of other americans have allowed yourself to be manipulated by fear mongering and paranoia. I can't even begin to imagine why this is even a story, unless it says something unsavory about the intolerance of a subset americans, and/or the complete misinformation and abject unprofessionalism of the media latching onto an infotainment story like this.

Would I be offended if an evangelical church was built near a formerly bombed abortion clinic? Nope. I wouldn't even think about if for a nanosecond, let alone stress out about it. Anyone who is stressed out about a muslim mosque in manhattan, located several blocks for the former WTC really needs to be introspective and examine exactly why they are outraged and offended by a non-story.

I can't fuckin' believe you would call Harry Reid a BIGOT....

I'm on record with criticizing Harry (and Nancy) long before Obama was elected and it became the popular thing to do.

Harry's a cowardly wuss but I do wonder if he made the statement to pander to the wingnuts of Nevada who are considering a vote for that anti-Muslim wackjob Sharron Angle.

If i had died at "ground zero", i would be aghast at a mosque being built on my grave.

What would really make me happy is that the location of my death was marked with something understated and tasteful, such as the corporate headquarters of magazine publishing giant Conde Nast.

The main issue i have with it is that it would be an unnecessary target of violence. guaranteed it gets vandalized and possibly worse on a regular basis.

That percentage of Americans is entitled to their opinion, but that's it. It's a local issue and NYC wants it.

On the other hand, if you build a mosque on something the chances of a plane flying into it is reduced by about 99%.

yah and the chance of angry local new-yorkers burning it down and providing an image to teach future terrorists studying in mosques hatred of America increases by about 99%

Wait a minute....I thought you were against it because it was an insult to 9/11 victims, and now your against it because your concerned for the safety of the muslims?

Wow. Okay.

this isn't bumfuck arkansas, dude. Its New York City. It's a melting pot, and more so than most of the rest of the country, they are pretty cosmopolitan and tolerant of diversity. I really don't think you need to stress out worrying about the safety of the muslims. I think they are quite capable and knowledgeable about their own neighborhood.

you only get half my logic. if a mosque is build close to ground zero it will at some point be the victim of christian extremist americans which will fan the flame anti American sentiment from Muslim nations. just the fact that the dems dont get this/and are going against public opinion on it is going to make people who would normally vote dem vote republican in completely unrelated states. dems shooting self in foot again.

My personal opinion, is that you can calm down.

6 or 12 months from now, nobody is hardly going to remember this story. It's a manufactured controversy, made up and flogged to death by an incompetent media, during the slow news cycle of August.

It's going to go the way of other manufactured controversies, like Climate Gate and Terry Schiavo.

And to the extent its even remembered, wingnuts overwhelmingly in the near future will be embarrassed to be associated with it, as seen with Terry Schiavo and Climate Gate, and numerous other phony "controversies".

I can assure you, in 11 weeks, when people go to the polls to oust your stupid ass liberal congress, this support you all have for Islam building a Trophy Mosque at Ground Zero, will still be remembered. It just amazes me how you arrogant fuckers all seem to think the majority of the country supports your insanity! You've basically called 80% of us bigots! Last I checked, that is not a very good way to win votes, even when you are sinking like the Titanic.

Reb - are you speaking for America again?

Haven't you learned to get out of that habit? You ain't America, Reb.

Yah Lummox, I think 80 fucking percent SPEAKS FOR ITSELF! But indeed, I did point it out to your dumb ass.
:good4u:

As I said on another thread, I think about that same # supported invading Iraq, as well.

I was in the minority then, too. But I wasn't wrong.

You're a fucking idiot! You've been wrong about everything in your life since the time you were born! In fact, you probably were a breech delivery because your stupid ass wanted to enter the world feet first! It's only a testament to the benevolence of humanity that you are still with us, people feel sorry for you, like the elephant man, and have tried to look out for you.

But look... I am thrilled that Democrats have decided to pick up the banner of radical Islam, to distract from the dismal economy! I am pleased that we finally see the Democrats making a stand for principles of religious freedom, although I doubt they will remember it somewhere down the road when Christianity or Judaism is involved. Still, it's nice to know they do understand we have it, and that it's guaranteed in the Constitution... and it's good to see the Democrats actually take a stand on the founding principles of the Constitution, even if it is to protect our enemies of freedom. And I would much rather have democrats out there defending the mosque, lecturing the rest of us on how we are intolerant bigots, than have them lying about Republicans wanting to take away old people's social security. At least it's something new that we haven't heard before.
