no more right to travel freely

Governor Deval Patrick declared a state of emergency and banned cars from the road beginning at 4 p.m. today as Massachusetts braces for a potentially historic blizzard that could blanket the state with more than 2 feet of snow, whip up winds to 70 miles per hour, and batter the coast with giant waves.

The travel ban, a rare measure, was announced by Patrick at a news conference at the state’s emergency bunker in Framingham.

Patrick said the state of emergency would allow the state to “implement emergency measures to ensure the safety of our residents and take appropriate steps to mobilize state assets.”

so, that non-existent police state............how many of you want the government to just start killing groups of people before you'll decide it's actually a police state?

Kurt Schwartz, director of the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, said at the news conference that the travel ban applies to all roads in the state, but there are various exceptions, such as for public safety, media, and vehicles supplying esssential businesses like convenience stores and hardware stores. Violating the travel ban, he said, could incur a penalty of a year in jail and a $500 fine.

total bullshit. and really...the media is allowed on the roads...but non media vehicles are not. i can't believe this is constitutional....though i suppose the argument would be there is no right to drive on state roads.

police state in action.

Massholes deserve their police state. They vote for this shit so I hope they enjoy it. The typical masshole probably agrees with the gov on this one.

The nazi liberal totalitarian cunt fucking up the commonwealth knows no better.
He was raised a welfare cunt.
Became a liberal hack.
Got educated at another's expense.
Now shows he has no understanding of how workers strive!
He is a nazi totalitarian.
His dictates are unconstitutional.
Jailing workers for coming from and going to work!
What a filthy nazi cunt!

ZOMG this is your example of a "police state"?

Governor Patrick is really "damned if he does and damned if he doesn't", huh?

how do you figure? he could tell everyone to stay home and if they don't, that is their fault.

simple as that once you take off your whiny partisan hat.

I'd rip ANY governor doing this, but you won't believe that. Like I said, you'd need to see police roaming the streets killing at random before you'd believe a police state and even then, you just might not have a big issue with it, since they are paid to be the experts.

1. This is a storm of historical proportions.
2. If I want to drive in it I will, and I assure you, the cops will not be bothered.
3. I thought I was paranoid :palm:

The difference between you and I is I see the Governor doing this out of concern for the citizens of his state.

YOU see this as further proof that your paranoid conspiracy theories are coming to fruition.

how is it paranoid to see this as an example of the police state. did you see the that you can do jail time and pay a fine if the officers stop you? that is textbook police state. the question isn't whether they will stop you, the question is can they and can they throw you in jail.

i'm surprised you're bashing STY for this.

that is what every tyrannical government says...."for your safety"

and people like you willingly give up their freedom so the nanny state can protect you

pathetic.

1. This is hyped beyond all recognition.
2. Riiiiight.
3. When have you ever spoken out against the police state?

Have you ever driven in a blizzard?

Don't waste your time trying to explain things rationally to him...he isn't interested.

Governor Perry here in Texas ordered everyone in Houston to evacuate before hurricane Ike arrived, but you won't hear STY or BHY speaking up about that because Perry's a good little Rightie Pol.
