Full story
A teen suspected of intentionally hitting and killing two 17-year-old girls in New Jersey faces murder charges in the teens’ deaths. The teen posted a YouTube livestream nearly a week prior to the incident, where he sought vengeance against one of the girls, local news site The N.J. Star-Ledger reported.Vincent Battiloro had a YouTube channel where he’d play MLB games and rant about sports and politics to his 40,000-plus followers. His content grew darker as the 17-year-old ranted about “false allegations” regarding sexually explicit images involving children and a peer from his school that’s caused him legal troubles, according to the Star-Ledger.
On Sept. 23, Battiloro allegedly posted a video about him seeking vengeance against a girl and her mother after he was suspended, the publication reported. Nearly a week later, he was arrested on murder charges.
Battiloro is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Maria Niotis and Isabella Salas, both 17, according to the Union County Prosecutor’s Office. The prosecutor didn’t name Battiloro or the girls in the release, but the Star-Ledger connected him to the charges following a review of 15 traffic citations linked to the crash. The slain teens were identified publicly by friends and families.
The office said the girls were riding on an electric bike when Battiloro allegedly struck them, driving three times the legal speed limit of 25 mph. The girls’ families called Battiloro a “coward of a man” in a joint statement released to Fox 5, a New York City affiliate of Fox News.
They also claimed Battiloro had stalked Maria for months.
“He is not insane, he is competent and meditated,” they said.
Battiloro posts video after crash
A day after the two teens were killed, Battiloro allegedly posted a 22-minute livestream addressing the fatal incident and said there was “more to the story.” Tens of thousands of people watched the video, according to the Star-Ledger. Straight Arrow News has not independently verified the video or the connection to Battiloro. In the video, Battiloro said he’ll explain “in greater detail” what he meant and said he’s gone through too much.
“I’m a nice kid,” he allegedly said in the video. “I’m 17 years old with a good family by my side. And these allegations that have been ruining everything, is a shame.”
In the video he posted on Sept. 23, Battiloro appeared to make harassing phone calls to the Niotis family. He sent a pizza delivery to Maria’s home as “vengeance” and said, “I think Maria is hungry.”
“You should not have accused me of sending porn, and you should not have dragged me into creating a police report,” the Star-Ledger reported Battiloro saying in the video, using both Maria and her mother’s name.
Teen claims girl mocked slain influencer Charlie Kirk
The aggrieved teen later claimed that Maria mocked Charlie Kirk’s murder when she allegedly shared a video critical of Kirk on TikTok. Kirk, a conservative influencer who founded Turning Point USA, was killed on Sept. 10 during a speaking tour. Tyler Robinson, whom law enforcement said is suspected of the killing, faces one count of aggravated murder.Battiloro allegedly said in the video that when Maria sees the delivery, she “better think of Charlie Kirk” for making fun of the influencer’s death. He used expletives often in the video against Maria and her family.
Maria’s grandmother, whom The Star-Ledger didn’t name, told the publication that Maria’s mother, Foulla, contacted police several times about Battiloro to no avail. The teen made several statements over the summer about a police investigation, the paper’s review found.
Battiloro mentioned in one of the videos that he was suspended from school indefinitely because he “got into her relationship business,” and then local police got involved. He didn’t state how but said police told him the charges would be dismissed.
