Russia says all urban areas of Mariupol cleared of Ukrainian forces - RIA
The Russian defence ministry said today it had cleared the entire urban area of Mariupol of Ukrainian forces and had blockaded a few fighters in the Azovstal steelworks, RIA news agency reported.

Defence Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said that as of
today, Ukrainian forces in the besieged port city had lost
more than 4,000 people, RIA added.

Russia can win in the short term. Then they will have another Afghanistan to deal with. It will eat at them until they stop. People fight hard for their homeland and families. They also will remember the deaths and destruction that Putin put on them. Putin will wind up with a hollow victory at best.

Many Ukrainians are pro-Russian , enough to have elected a pro-Russian president who was removed by the US-led coup. You seem to have a mental block in acknowledging that.
Afghanistan was a far, far different scenario.
