"Next time in Moscow": Putin extends Trump invitation as summit ends

Hubris is how civilizations generally die.

The British/American Empire collapse is nothing special.

Bend Over....This is going to hurt.

American exceptionalism was always moronic.

As you would know had you bothered to get your ass educated.

Indeed. Regardless of whether that happens or not, though, I now think that the Trump Putin summit went as well as could be expected. I certainly envisioned the possiblity of a -lot- worse, up to Putin being seriously wounded or even killed by a Ukrainian sniper. There certainly seemed to be a foiled plan for just that to happen:

Below are 2 articles on the summit written by authors I trust:

Quoting from the conclusion from the article above:

Simply hilarious getting to watch the press squirm and spin. The sad fact is that the Western establishment is so infected with an intense hatred of Putin and Russia that they are incapable of actually listening to what Putin said. Kelly Anne Conway, for example, disgraced herself by ridiculing President Putin for mentioning the importance of Orthodox Christianity as part of Russian culture.

The next meeting, if there is one, will be in Moscow… probably in late September or early October. I anticipate that the weekend news cycle will be consumed with howls of outrage from most of the European leaders and from Zelensky and his crew. This is nothing more than impotence-fueled frustration.

Quoting Simplicius' conclusion regarding the meeting from the article above:
**
All in all I still think the meeting was a great step in US-Russian relations for many other reasons apart from Ukraine. The simple fact of open dialogue and slow-building bonhomie is well worth it after an era of no dialogue and open hostility under the likes of Biden and Obama.

We can only assume where things left off is that Trump now knows first hand precisely what Russia’s immutable demands are, and he needs to find a way to somehow package them into an acceptable form for Ukraine and Europe. The problem is, this is impossible, so for now Trump is stuck playing evasion games and hoping to buy time until the situation on the ground is more amenable, i.e. Zelensky gets desperate, or is altogether ousted.

But we’ll have to wait and see what future statements bring, as the Russian side has yet to make any definitive statements of their own about the meeting.

Lastly, for those of you who voted in the recent poll that Trump would ‘kick the can down the road’, using the meeting as a way to save himself from his own self-imposed ‘sanctions’ trap, it seems you were right. Asked about whether he would still sanction Russia, Trump replied:
“Well, because the meeting went so well, we don’t have to think about that now.”

Moscow has high-speed rail. How is that possible?
I believe you are mistaken. Russia is supposedly constructing high speed rail, but it has supposedly been constructing that for decades.

In 2024, once again, Russia started over from scratch to build their first high speed rail. The past projects have all been cancelled now, so if this goes to plan, they should have their first high speed line in 2028.

I am going to go out on a limb, and say this will fail like the past projects.

China has unlimited power, as our grid struggles to stay up.....how can this be?
We definitely need to modernize our grid. We have far more power sources than China, and should not have such a terrible grid.

I think it is mostly a refusal of modern America to invest. We have the money, we have the expertise, we have the resources, but we do not have the will to modernize.

It is the inability of Americans to think beyond tomorrow...many times noon tomorrow.

Planning is a lost art here ....just look at rare earths!

Just look at our military industrial sector...we pay more than the next ten nations combined....for generally shit quality.

And almost nobody objects.

Buckle Up!

You may be right, Walt. Don't let it go to your head. I got confused with the Moscow metro system. Compare that with Boston and NYC.

Almost all of our gear failed in Ukraine....the Bradleys are a rare exception....they are almost as good as what the Russians have.

WAKEY WAKEY FUCKERS!

Performance Matters Here...and failing at wars one demands is always catastrophic.

Trump is desperately trying to run from this fact.

It will not work.

Trump had every opportunity to get out of this lost war without it being charged to him.

But he turned up too dumb to do it.

Book reading would have helped.

Might make it easier for trump to deliver more highly classified, top secret material directly into Putin's hands. 👍🏼

I saw the pic on my feed and mistakenly believed it was a live one, and didn’t spot the mocked up kneepads. I couldn’t understand why so many people were laughing and raging about it. Then I realised, deleted it and reposted with another pic. My words remained the same…

Moscow has 20 times the population of Boston. It is insane to even compare the two. That Boston has as good of a subway system as it has, at its size, is fantastic.

The New York subway is just plain bigger, and faster than Moscow's. Moscow has some artistic gems in their system, but it also has a lot of decay. There are many stations where you have to pay an extra "tax" to a thug just to get through them. New York subways are far better than you would assume; this is not the 1970's.

Don't get carried away, Walt, most of the world has nicer things than the wealthiest empire in histoty. Here's what the net says.

Many countries around the world operate high-speed rail systems, commonly known as bullet trains. Japan, China, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy are well-known for their extensive high-speed rail networks. Other countries with notable high-speed rail include South Korea, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Turkey.

Our high speed rail would barely be considered high speed rail in many other countries, but it does barely exist. Russia has nothing but the vague promise that it might get high speed rail sometime in the future... "This time for real."

High speed rail would work so well in America, it is a tragedy that we are not investing in it.
