Why should anyone be surprised. If you really think about it, WHAT legislation or idea do conservatives ever propose that doesn't benefit the elite? It is critical to understand what conservatism is:

Conservatism is a negative form of thought that is incompatible with a free and open society. It is anti-democratic in nature and builds nothing, it can only tear things down.

Conservatism throughout human history has always created a aristocracy, plutocracy, or some form of oppressive society where there is a ruling class or hierarchy. Today's aristocrats and hierarchy are the CEO's, corporations, free marketeers, and the business elite. Conservatives will defend to the death McDonalds right to slowly poison our children, but they never defend our children's health and well being.

While I agree with your understated description of conservatism, Children should be sacred. How could these animals be so crass, blatent in their stupidity? They verge on calling down the wrath.
 
Look, I realize that leftists are allergic to work, but how will 24 hours kill teenagers in Maine? Especially in the summer months when school is out?
 
It is not about when school is out, it is about when school is in.
The proposed law would allow children to work until 11 p.m., as well as working 4 hours a day, six days a week.

Studies done in Maine have shown that students who drop out had been working a lot, and that parrent insisted on childrens help in farming and fishing endeavors.

Furthermore, and no less noteworthy, the proposed law allows a special reduced wage of $5.25 for workers to age 20. This clearly would displace minimum wage workers as well as devaluing youth.

This is nothing less than an outragous act of blatent class warfare. The ruling 1% wants their toilets cleaned cheaper, and by those too ignorant to realize their lost rights. This law facilitates both of those goals.

Let's start with the Federal Reserve Transparency Act, authored by Rep. Ron Paul. This received broad support from conservatives, but very little support from liberals. Barack Obama is opposed to increased transparency in the Fed. Why do you believe that is the case?

Children who assist their parents' workplaces, be it the family farm or store, or in fisheries, do not generally do so on the books. They are unaffected by labor laws and curfews.

Sorry to keep bursting your bubble with reality, but I was an employee in a family business and filed tax returns starting at age 13.

This law, like so many acts of classwarfare only applies to the poor. It serves only the rich, and applies only to the poor. Why do you want freedom and proserity only for the wealthy?

Key word.... it would ALLOW teens to work more. Not force.... ALLOW.

The article's example of 'four hours a night six nights a week' could certainly happen, but is it realistically what we will see? Before all the nonsense of 'teens can't work', I was a three sport athlete in high school and worked an average of 20-30 hours a week. The bulk of those hours came on Sat and Sun. Child labor laws can and should be used to protect teens from sweat shops and the like.... but eliminating the ability of the teen to work at all is just ridiculous. Working in a grocery store, restaurant etc... is not the same. This article is simply trying to paint a worse case scenario that is quite simply unlikely to occur.

Just take a look at its 'if they work until 11, they would likely only get 4-6 hours of sleep'.... Really? So if I get off work at 11 and have to be at school by 8... then I am only going to sleep 4-6 of those 9 hours? Give me a break.
 
First of all, many, if not most highschools start earlier than 8.

Second, using your self as an example is unrealistic, you are Super, the average student is just average.

As to your math, yeah, I guess if you slept at the sink, skipped doing your homework, had no travel time to your job, or to school, you still wouldn't get as much sleep as the average teen needs.

1) The main point is... WHY tell teens they CAN'T work more? My example was the extreme the other way, where I always had a sport after school, yet still worked, did my homework etc...

2) In the example of 'working to 11... yet only working 4 hour shifts'.... then they are obviously not STARTING work until 7. Which means they have from 3:30 until 6 to do homework. If they start school prior to 8, then they are also likely to be getting done sooner as well. Also... I factored in time for travel from work, getting ready in the morning etc... THERE ARE NINE HOURS... suggesting that they would take five of them for other activities is ridiculous.

3) Back to the main point... no one would be FORCING the kids to work. No one would be putting them in sweat shops. The whole '20 hours is the maximum' is just some arbitrary number pulled out of the ass of some clown. Leave it up to the teens and their parents.

4) The author is using fear mongering bullshit to make his 'point'. Saying drop out rates would increase because of the extra four hours? Yet another example of such.

The poor don't benefit at all from the minimum wage, seeing as how its never been a living wage. The only people who benefit from the minimum wage are high school students, and traditional college students. Overall, the lowering of the wage is probably a bad thing, depending on where it was to begin with. I live in WA State where we have a nationally high rate...

Lower the minimum wage, all you do is lower the wage. There is only so much work, the idea that companies will hire more workers at lower wages is too stupid even for you.
