Next month, we will change our military mission

I will be 49 this week. I have a lot more gray hair than I did last year.

As a candidate for President, I pledged to bring the war in Iraq to a responsible end.

Shortly after taking office, I announced our new strategy for Iraq and for a transition to full Iraqi responsibility, and I made it clear that by August 31, 2010 America's combat mission in Iraq would end, and that is exactly what we are doing, as promised, on schedule.

Already, we have closed or turned over to Iraq hundreds of bases.

We’re moving out millions of pieces of equipment in one of the largest logistics operations that we’ve seen in decades.

By the end of this month, we’ll have brought more than 90,000 of our troops home from Iraq since I took office.

These are dangerous tasks.

There are still those with bombs and bullets who will try to stop Iraq's progress, and the hard truth is we have not seen the end of American sacrifice in Iraq.

In this region, and beyond, we will tolerate no safe haven for al-Qaida and their extremist allies, we will disrupt and we will dismantle, and we will ultimately defeat al-Qaida.

its funny how obama tells little lies and thinks he will fool people....

All American troops are to leave Iraq by the end of next year, as mandated under an agreement negotiated before Obama took office, between the Iraqis and President George W. Bush.

he trying to go around claiming he kept his promise....really.....

Actually, while running for the White House, he said he would remove one or two brigades a month from Iraq to achieve an end to combat operations within 16 months of taking office. Instead, shortly after becoming president, Obama settled on a slower plan, to remove all combat troops within 19 months, and not at the pace of one brigade per month but on a more backloaded timetable.

no he didn't....he wisely had to alter it....but to claim "as promised and on schedule" is a lie

He made clear when he announced his policy what he was doing:

As a candidate for President, I made clear my support for a timeline of 16 months to carry out this drawdown, while pledging to consult closely with our military commanders upon taking office to ensure that we preserve the gains we’ve made and protect our troops. Those consultations are now complete, and I have chosen a timeline that will remove our combat brigades over the next 18 months.

And now he's following that plan as promised and on schedule. Quit hatin' for just a second or two, big guy.

Do you think it will speed up with the recent wikileaks documents, or have people alreay moved on and that story wasn't as interesting as Lindsey's life?

Gooooooo, Obama! Goooooo, Obama! :cheer::cheer:

Again, dishonest or stupid?

Obama, February 2009:

As a candidate for President, I made clear my support for a timeline of 16 months to carry out this drawdown, while pledging to consult closely with our military commanders upon taking office to ensure that we preserve the gains we’ve made and protect our troops. Obama, today:

Yurtsie's reading and comprehension skills are as poor as his prognostication abilities, apparently. Yurtsie!

Isn't that being a little nitpicky?

I honestly don't remember the exact amount of time. I'm sure it's google-able, but 16 or 19 months is basically splitting hairs.

It was 16 months. And after taking office, he acknowledged his 16 month pledge and changed it to 19 months based on his consultations with the military. Now, he's saying that after taking office he committed to the 19 month schedule and he's now following through on it.

Yurt's just being his typical dishonest self, seemingly incapable of simple reading comprehension.

"Lies" is just such an extreme characterization. Like Obama had a secret plan to put one over on America by promising 16 months, and amending to 19 after he took office.

For a 7-year war, it's a pretty insignificant difference.

really...so if i said i will arrive at 6pm and arrive at 9pm....i'm on schedule and not splitting hairs?

is this right?

Do you really think that's a decent analogy?

You're splitting hairs. Obama wasn't trying to put a big one over on Americans by parsing over 3 months.

if you were honest, you would see it is not just me saying....only apologists hacks like you protecting him...from yahoo...

Those were concessions to the military that disappointed Obama's anti-war base of support.

so remind me again how i was dishonest....oh yeah...i wasn't, you were

For what kind of event?

If you're a famous cellist, and you promise to play a concert in 16 months, but then you meet with the concert promoters, and they tell you that the tickets are actually sold for 19 months...well then, you're right on time.

Yurtsie!

"Today, I have come to speak to you about how the war in Iraq will end. once again, you get it wrong....i made a promise to the people that i would show up in 16 months if they elect me cellist...after i become a famous cellist, i realize that was fucking stupid, and then change (read not keep my promise of 16 months) my promise to 19 months....

am i on time as promised in my campaign to become a cellist?

simple yes or no will do onceler

"Barack Obama will work with military commanders on the ground in Iraq and in consultation with the Iraqi government to end the war safely and responsibly within 16 months."

nothing there says anything about changing the timeline.....its clear, within 16 months...."in consultation"....

sorry mr. frady cat who steals my avi from usmb and is too chickenshit to say what users you have there....but you get it wrong as well....though you should be used to that....onceler is a fucking intellectual giant compared to you
