It's far more nuanced than given credit for, and he stipulates it's not just gun ownership and really gets into the unique paranoia inherent in America. I would say that coupled with his opinions on health care and the lack of access to mental health care, indicate a much more expansive solution to the problem of gun violence. I have not seen him advocate actually banning private ownership, am I wrong? I could have missed it?

The article I posted does a pretty good job of explaining the chronology of gun laws in Germany and who is responsible for what laws. It shows that once Hitler gained power, he loosened and deregulated gun laws with one exception...the Jews. The gun rights advocates are attempting to claim they are Obama's 'Jews'...that is bullshit...TOTAL bullshit.

This forced the German government to pass the Regulations on Weapons Ownership, which declared that "all firearms, as well as all kinds of firearms ammunition, are to be surrendered immediately.”

The regulation was in response to the Treaty of Versailles, and the German Weimar government passed the legislation (not the Nazis). The 1919 measure was passed immediately after Germany lost World War I and well before Hitler came to power in 1933.

Hitler, then, came into power when this regulation was in effect … so, yes, Hitler, by default, did have a gun control policy — but only because it was forced on Germany.

Did you get that? Kids in the US are dying at not just double or triple the next highest country, they are being shot and killed (gun homicide) at 16 TIMES the rate of 25 other countries COMBINED!
I think to say this does not demand change requires a very uncaring mind set. Maybe if everyone just had to see what the first responders in Newtown were confronted with they would get off political ideology and find ways to change this terrible statistic.

Ok, I'm trying to catch up here -

But the German govt would have killed Jews even if the Jews still had guns. Look at our country - no confiscation, but we've killed Indians; we've locked up Jews; we killed the people in Waco; we blew up houses in Philadelphia; we've locked up polygamists in mass raids; we killed Eric Weaver (think that's the right name)

And that was with no confiscation of guns. What Hitler did or didn't do re gun control has no application to this country; and it doesn't matter if you have guns - if the govt wants you, it will get you.

What protects you in this country is our system of laws and our courts - doesn't always work, sometimes takes a long time, but it's more sure than the guns you clutch in your hands.
