America turned into a net oil exporter last week, breaking 75 years of continued dependence on foreign oil and marking a pivotal moment toward what President Trump has branded "energy independence."

The shift to net exports is the dramatic result of an unprecedented boom in American oil production, with thousands of wells pumping from the Permian region of Texas and New Mexico to the Bakken in North Dakota to the Marcellus in Pennsylvania.

U.S. crude shipments reached a record 3.2 million barrels last week.

The shale revolution has transformed oil wildcatters into billionaires and the U.S. into the world’s largest petroleum producer, surpassing Russia and Saudi Arabia.

The power of OPEC has been diminished, undercutting one of the major geopolitical forces of the last half century. The cartel and its allies are meeting in Vienna this week, trying to make a tough choice to cut output and support prices, risking the loss of more market share to the U.S.

“We are becoming the dominant energy power in the world,” said Michael Lynch, president of Strategic Energy & Economic Research.

"Trump is making America great again," said Joe McMonigle, an oil analyst at Hedgeye Risk Management LLC and a former senior official at the U.S. Energy Department. "First president in modern time to get America to be energy independent."

Oil historians that have compiled annual data using statistics from the American Petroleum Institute showing the country had been a net oil importer since 1949, when DEMOCRAT Harry Truman was in the White House.

LOL I'm surprised OPEC doesn't try another round of supply increase. I was looking forward to even cheaper gas.

Macron non!

HIGHER TAXES SUCK

The first “yellow vest” demonstrations – so-called because of the high-visibility jackets all French motorists must carry in their vehicles – were held to contest planned fuel tax increases, but have since evolved into a broader protest movement against French President Macron, who is accused of turning a blind eye to the rising cost of living that has left many struggling to make ends meet.

The “yellow vest” revolt caught Macron unaware when it erupted on November 17, and has left him scrambling to respond to the deepest crisis of his presidency.

Four people have died and dozens have been injured in the rallies, which opinion polls suggest still attract the support of around two out of three French people.

On Tuesday, his government caved in and surrendered to the rioters, announcing a six-month suspension of the fuel tax increase – but not a scuttling of it – in response to the violent protests, which are now in their third week.

However, the measure is seen as “too little, too late” by many.

During the Obama Presidency, America built more new oil rigs and increased production to record levels.

Just one more thing to thank Obama for.

I did thank him at the time, didn't I, Zappacrite.

Will you hail Trump for making the USA a net exporter of oil?

Dude are you watching the market today ... What exactly are you doing to get from Oil exports "today"?

I'm getting the satisfaction of seeing the USA leading the world in oil exports for the first time in 75 years, and I'm enjoying energy independence, "expert."

Go, Joe, go!

Former VP Joe Biden, who over the last year has been a harsh critic of President Trump and his policies, gave his clearest indication earlier this week that he is seriously considering a run.

“I'll be as straight with you as I can. I think I'm the most qualified person in the country to be president,” Biden said. “The issues that we face as a country today are the issues that have been in my wheelhouse, that I've worked on my whole life.”
