New Version of Huck Finn Elilminates N-Bombs

What happened when you returned the greeting that way? :)

Haha. I did it once or twice and it was accepted but wasn't something I wanted to get into a habit of saying.

There were a couple of white kids I was friends with that grew up in black neighborhoods and they dropped the n-bomb on a frequent basis. That was always a sight to behold.

In other words, when a black kid says it to a white, it's bait.

If a white kid and a black kid are good friends it's ok.
Just not ok for asshole crackers to use.

No, it is generally a close friendship when I have witnessed it, but it isn't used regularly as cawacko suggested.

No, they said it to me because we were boys. In essence it was almost a compliment to me. The fact that we were friends is why they didn't care when I said it back to them. But after saying it a couple of times I realized even if accepted among friends it was just not a good thing for me to be saying.

I suppose. We only had three black families in my town, and the one who was my age, my friend, we never talked like that. He went through a stint in college when he went "ghetto" and it was "bait", but grew out of it.

I grew up in Oakland, it is a majority black. I also played basketball at an excellent (basketball) high school so again the majority of my team was black. I can't speak for how things are in other areas I just know my own experience in Oakland.

you know, i find slavery very offensive, i don't even like to talk or think about it, in fact i get very offended when ever it is mentioned....i propose wiping the word out of our language and wiping out the history of slavery in our text books....that way we can all get along

We each look at the world through a different lens. This guy was a bit awkward back then. His older brother was actually a lot shorter, a star football player and a great outgoing personality- everyone loved the guy. My friend ran track with me and wasn't very good. They were both just regular guys.

a wild life photographer managed to snap this shot of topspin playing tennis:

Oakland sucks ass. One of the worst hell holes in the country... right behind Detroit.

Damn Yankee, my high school was private and I think they say like 98% of the kids go to college. So I'm not trying to paint a picture that my classmates were just ignorant people off the street. These were people that went on to college. I don't think their talk is different than other major urban cities but the n-bomb was a part of the lingo among themselves or as I said on occassion towards me or other whites they really liked. I'm imagining in the town you described where there were maybe three black families is probably wasn't used much if at all.

what are they going to revise next, textbooks that use the n-word in context - revise history to remove the word or other offensive words to pretend that they did not exist or move it all to the college level

what nonsense

twain was no racist, he was against racism - read huck fin or tom sawyer or his other works

damn those censors
