The other thing of course is that Romney may have made two appointments to the Supreme Court during one term.

I talked to two republicans since the election who both voted for Obama for this reason. (among others)

I did actually say that he could appoint judges to SCOTUS but all politicians want to be re-elected especially Presidents.

Talk about vague. Are you trying to say he wouldn't appoint conservatives, despite being enough of a realist to know he wouldn't earn a second term?

I thought I was being clear enough before but I will say it again. Romney is enough of a pragmatist to know that screwing too much with abortion laws would have been a guarantee to lose in 2016. Having said that I believe that there is a case to cut the termination period back to 20 weeks or even 18 weeks. Did you know that in uber liberal countries like Denmark and Norway, the limit is 12 weeks and 18 weeks in Sweden? I would also think that more ought to done to prevent sex selection abortions which are rampant in European countries. That is one of the reasons that the limit was brought down to 12 weeks because the sex cannot be determined before then.

Paul Ryan is anti-abortion and I am fully aware of his history. Some of his views are eminently sensible and some are just loony. I agree with him about limiting abortions to 20 weeks, the average in Europe is 12 weeks. The bill that would have written into law that zygotes are legal people from the moment of conception is barking mad and never had any chance of becoming law. We had a similar debate over here when bills were introduced to reduce the termination limit to 20 weeks and 22 weeks. All the usual suspects came out of the woodwork to insist that the heavens would fall in and it stayed at 24 weeks. I also think that trans-vaginal scans are political in nature and intended to intimidate only.

I notice that you have nothing to say about Norway and their experiences, I wonder why?

Why are we talking about abortion at all then? Norway is considered to be a pretty liberal country yet they have a 12 week termination limit. You have Norwegian roots so I thought that you would want to discuss that?

No. I had personal experience with abortion as birth control.

My son or daughter would be almost 30 now. I am not over it.

In spite of my personal feelings I support Darla's viewpoint. My feelings are mine alone.

It is hard to credit how abortion is still so rife in these days of contraceptive patches, vaginal rings, intrauterine systems (IUS) and contraceptive implants which offer long-term contraception that is virtually hassle-free for months, years or forever. It is also politically incorrect apparently to point out that over 35% of all abortions are performed on black women, so it's plainly obvious that many of those are just an extreme form of birth control.
