New peak rates mean charging electric cars more expensive than petrol

Illiteracy in economics/accounting/mathematics: If you are charging your EV with power generated from your solar PV unit, then the cost of that solar PV unit is associated with the charging of your EV. You are not charging your EV for free.

Sunk costs. Paid for years ago and it powers my entire house's electricity. So any cost related from the PV system would be fractions of a penny at this point.

Illiteracy in mathematics: "Enough" is not a numerical value. Why are you too much of a pansy ass to tell us how much you paid for it?

Because I don't like, respect or know you. You do NOT have a right to anything of my personal information that I wish you not to know. Sorry if you are such a totalitarian that you missed that bit.

Including but not limited to:
Debris/snow removal
Cleaning
Inspection/repair re: damage/functionality

And as I said, in the 7 years I"ve owned these I have paid for NONE of those things. Some with the 9 years prior system.

Guess I don't think you need to know what it is. Is that OK?

Geez, I wouldn't tell any of these MAGA moron Election Deniers where I live. If they're crazy enough to follow Trump, they're crazy enough to do just about anything. I pay to live in an exclusive, gated community to keep that riff-raff away from me.

I can agree with that. But then in the last, ummm.....30 years or so I have had little need for either a cross-country vehicle or a remote area vehicle. I wouldn't recommend an EV for anyone like that. For the remote area vehicle I wouldn't even recommend most regular cars...I'd suggest AWD or 4WD.

Exactly what we are discussing about a future EV. We live in a rural county in the Upper Peninsula. Long distances between towns or to get to Wisconsin. Harsh winter weather. It just doesn't seem practical for a year-round vehicle.

I can drive across the entire country from NYC to Prudhoe Bay pulling a 15000 lab 5th wheel and do anything your Bolt can do at the same time while carring more passengers. Plus my chances of surviving a wreck in my F250 are much higher than you in your Bolt. EVs make an OK town car at best..

I have a 2020 Mazda 3

But I also have a 1999 Town Car in just about mint cond with 120k on it will go another 120k easy....I would trust it on a cross country trip

An EV will never last 24 years on the same battery

Wow. I'm so impressed you have a 24 year old car that has never had any part of its engine replaced not once!

I think I'm starting to rethink my view of "miracles"

I have a 22 year-old Nissan Frontier 4 cylinder that has about 250,000 miles on it. The only engine part I've had to replace was the water pump at about 120,000 miles. That cost me like $40 for a new one. It took about two hours of my time to change it (11 bolts, but some are a bit hard to reach). I changed the belts on the engine at the same time (3 of them). I've changed the clutch and pressure plate on it twice now. That takes about a day to do as you have to drop the transmission. It has a one of the last engines still using a chain instead of a belt so that's a forever part too.

My mechanic says that truck will run "forever." It's easy to work on. There's no serious complexity to it. My kid is driving it right now.

Just brakes tires belts hoses and batteries spark plugs coils oil changes trans service coolant brakes power steering flushs etc air filters ..Replace the rear air bags at 100k along with ball joints tie rod ends

Not really a miracle its called maintenance, these engines will last 300k plus 40 years plus if taken care of

Your car will last 8 years if u are lucky and u will be spending another 40k plus

I paid 34k for the Town Car in 2000 and still going strong after 24 years, your car will be dead in 10 years or less

I can sell my car right now for 4500.00, your car in 24 years will be worth ZERO!! Just like a 24 year old cell phone is worthless

I don't have solar because of my roof orientation but I love charging my EV in my garage. No trips to the gas stations for me. No toxic gas fumes. No spilling gas. No waiting in line. No paying rising gas prices.

I love my EV.

...and using almost twice as much energy as a gasoline car.

What 'toxic gas fumes'? Apparently you haven't seen a gas nozzle before. I guess you prefer toxic lithium mining and processing.
What 'spilling gas'? Gasoline tanks on cars don't usually have any leaks.
What 'waiting in line'? I don't have to wait in line. People charging their EV's do, though.
EV drivers pay rising fuel prices like everyone else.

Close...actually 300 miles on a full charge.
300 / 2 = 150, dumbass.
Wrongo. But I have no interest in driving to the Lake of the Ozarks.
Then you're missing out. It's beautiful country.
I spent enough time driving around podunk towns in south and south east Missouri for grad school collecting samples.
Oh so now you claim you are a grad student. Stop making up shit about yourself.
Well, you PAID for the fuel for your car. I don't.
TANSTAAFL. You pay for the charge in your car, dumbass.

Also

Car insurance higher for electric cars because EVs cost more to repair or replace after a car accident.

Teslas have especially high collision coverage costs due to their high repair and maintenance costs, Teslas can only be repaired at Tesla-approved very high price body repair shops.

Tesla tires cost 1200.00...I put 70k tires on my Town Car for half that

Wow. You sure do have a martyrdom complex don't you? You see everything you don't like personally as a direct and life-endangering threat.

Must be TERRIFYING being you. You should probably buy a bigger truck to keep yourself safe from literally EVERYTHING AROUND YOU.

Warming of totalitarianism isn't a 'martyrdom complex'. Cliche fallacy. Redefinition fallacy. Word stuffing. Conflation fallacy.

NOT IN THE LEAST!
No, you cannot make your fallacy go away by denying it.
Because you are acting out EXACTLY what was done when ICE vehicles showed up.
Conflation fallacy. Manufactured 'history'. Presentism fallacy.
fighting it tooth and nail and unable to even COMPREHEND why anyone would change from a perfectly workable old technology.
EVs are older technology than ICE cars. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I don't know. Why do petroleum companies who make TONS of money off you get massive subsidies from the government?
They don't.
