Nah, people like Pastor Bob will happily tell you they are against it still and that their church will never perform such a ceremony.

And Catholic and Orthodox Jewish churches will not perform interfaith marriages still today.

Exactly, Pastor Bob, but not mainstream people, not national Politian's. They will play games for another 30 years by saying stuff like, well I wont take a position on that because its a states rights issue. But they wont outright come out against homosexual marriage after it becomes mainstream.

That isn't what you said. You said in 10 years you'd be hard-pressed to find anybody who would admit being against it. I simply am pointing out that even in 50 you will still have people who will tell you that it is flat against their religion.

And Catholic and Orthodox Jewish churches will not perform interfaith marriages still today.

Um... that is nonsense as far as Catholic churches are concerned. They absolutely will marry people of different faiths (provided one of them is Catholic)

Sorry I was unclear, racism has not disappeared. Now days people will not admit to being racist. But plenty of people are racist. In the 1960's it was considered socially acceptable to eb racist.

Ah yes....the 60's....the heyday of the Democrats.....LBJ kinda shot that crap down for you guys didn't he....

I remember it well....June 11, 1963. George Wallace, Governor of Alabama, in an attempt to keep his inaugural promise of "segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever" and stop the desegregation of schools, stood at the door of the Foster auditorium to try to block the entry of black students.

What a bunch... Democrat segregationists during the American Civil Rights Movement (1955-1968).

Everyone of them a social conservative.

Absolutely true, my sister and my BIL were married in a Catholic church. My sister is not Catholic.

garud is just tossing out more nonsense, derailing another thread in his petty attempts to show us all how 'enlightened' he is and how he can talk down about these 'stereotypical' conservatives he is so fond of.

I cant speak for all of them, but my paralegal, who is Jewish was denied a marriage at her fiancé's Catholic Church and at her conservative temple. THey are getting married at my Unitarian congregation.

Political people? Like who?

Our gov Tom Corbett compared gay marriage to incest.

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania Republican Gov. Tom Corbett compared the marriage of same-sex couples to the marriage of a brother and sister during an appearance on a Friday morning TV news show, a remark that was quickly condemned by advocates involved in the state's ongoing battle over whether to allow gays to wed.

Corbett was on WHP-TV in Harrisburg when an anchor asked about a statement his lawyers made in a recent court filing, comparing the marriage of gay couples to the marriage of children because neither can legally wed in the state.

"It was an inappropriate analogy, you know," Corbett said. "I think a much better analogy would have been brother and sister, don't you?"

Pennsylvania is the only state in the Northeast that allows neither gay marriage nor civil unions. Its ban on same-sex marriage is being challenged in federal and state courts.

The Jews would have agreed had she said the kids would be raised Jewish, but she refused.

She was not denied because of her faith Garud. Quit lying just because you enjoy trying to stereotype groups.

What was the real reason? Did they not want to attend the per-marriage counseling that ALL couples are required to go through if they want to be married in a Catholic Church?

He was speaking about interracial marriage. Plenty of people have spoke out against gay marriage

She told me that it was because she was not Catholic and not Christian. I am telling you second hand, but its not the first I have ever heard of this.

a dispensation is still required before the Church will bless the marriage of a Catholic to a non-Catholic.

Only if they plan on a catholic wedding. My BIL's uncle performed a ceremony in a catholic church, but it was not a catholic wedding. Basically, he can perform a ceremony, but it isn't a true "catholic wedding"...

In order to get that dispensation they would have to go through marriage counselling before they got married. However, in order to get married by a catholic priest in a catholic church without the church blessing, all they needed was a priest willing to do the ceremony.
