New Mexico’s governor on Friday issued an emergency order suspending the right to carry firearms in public across Albuquerque and the surrounding county for at least 30 days amid a spate of gun violence.

The Democratic governor, Michelle Lujan Grisham, said she is expecting legal challenges but felt compelled to act in response to gun deaths, including the fatal shooting of an 11-year-old boy outside a minor league baseball stadium this week.

Governor bans carrying guns in Albuquerque after 11-year-old killed

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Friday announced a new public health order that, she said, will prohibit people from carrying firearms, either open or concealed, in Albuquerque and throughout Bernalillo County for the next 30 days, regardless of whether they have a permit.

The order takes effect immediately. It states “no person, other than a law enforcement officer or licensed security officer, shall possess a firearm … either openly or concealed, within cities or counties averaging 1,000 or more violent crimes per 100,000 residents per year since 2021.”

The executive order also included monthly inspections of licensed gun dealers for violations, testing wastewater at schools for drugs like fentanyl, allowing police to book juveniles into jail without social services’ permission and sending New Mexico State Police officers to help fight crime in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County.

We shall see how the court cases against her turn out.

LOL. This will not go well for the gun nuts who believe that they can take all your guns away by fiat because they said so and used the word "emergency".

Albuquerque police Chief Harold Medina said he won’t enforce it. 1/4 of the population of New Mexico live in Albuquerque.

what are the chances that the stupid bitch did NOT discuss this with the city insurers?

what are the chances that the city's insurers are NOT going to cover settlements or judgements against the city from every court case that happens?

How do you ruin a cities budget? stupid shit like this.
