The Russians and others (Chinese) have had nuclear missiles aimed at America since before I was born. In those 70+ years, have they ever used t hem? Why not? Do you think the Iranians are stupid enough to risk total annihilation if they did?

Agreed. The only reason the Iranians want nukes is to prevent others from attacking them like Trump is doing now.

As for delivery systems, I remember when India first got nukes...and they weren't friendly with the US. Some said "Don't worry, they don't have ICBMs" but all it takes is a cargo ship in NYC harbor for a delivery system. Scary, but the problem remains the same: if an enemy nuked a US city, they would be turned into a green glass parking lot. Nukes are for deterrents, not attack since the blowback, literally, destroy them.

An argument can be made that more nations with nukes creates stability rather than the other way around.

It certainly makes invading a nuclear-armed country less likely. All the Arab-Israeli Wars stopped once Israel got nukes. Iran shifted to asymmetrical warfare as a safer option.

OTOH, the nations with nukes are bullying the nations without them as Trump has done now. As all the MAGA high school dropouts say, "Who died and left you boss?" applies to the US attacking a sovereign nation and dictating who can and who can't have nukes.
