Neil Young / Spotify Protest Grows To Include Joni Mitchell

Hello ziggy,

First time I ever listened to him.

Now I can see why he is so popular. He comes off like a reasonable guy. The problem is, he is really a slick talking con man.

I didn't have to listen very long to determine that. At timestamp 1:18, Rogan claims that because he had two guests on his podcast, the podcast was labelled misleading. I don't think that is true. I think it is because of what they said, and because of what Rogan has said, and because he has selectively only put out the information which supports refusing to comply with precautions to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Basically, he is reinforcing all the reasons people use to refuse to comply with the government recommended COVID safety precautions.

Then, about timestamp 1:35, he attempts to establish that since the science and understanding around the coronavirus pandemic have evolved, this means it isn't credible. That is disingenuous. Science is constantly being updated with newer information. That doesn't mean science is BS. All that means is our understanding of things gets better in time.

He falsely claimed that 8 months ago if he said that vaccinated people could catch and spread COVID he would be banned and removed from social media. No, that is not true. None of the vaccines were ever claimed to be 100% effective. The efficacy rates were published from the beginning, and none of them were 100%.

Also, when the vaccines were first given EUA, there was not enough data to know how long the immunity would last. Only after additional data became available was it learned the rate of diminishing effectiveness. Rogan takes advantage of this by pretending not to know it and acting like the science surrounding it should never change. That's ridiculous, because science would not be science if it never changed. Only through change are scientific advancements made.

Then he talks about masks as if they were a light switch. Apparently, in Rogan's world, masks either work, or they don't work. No other options, such as partial effectiveness. That is absurd. In the real world they do actually reduce the spread of exhaled air and virus particles. Cloth masks are the least effective, surgical masks are much better, and properly fitting N95 masks work the best.

It is easy to spot what Rogan is doing. He is telling skeptics what they want to hear, and finding ways to make it sound reasonable.

It is indeed dangerous misinformation.

Kudos to Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and Nils Lofgren for standing up to this nonsense.

Rogan is social poison. He's making a bunch of money to spread dangerous rumors. It's getting people killed and he doesn't care.

Insider: 6 times Joe Rogan promoted COVID-19 misinformation on his podcast

Rogan has spread many of the popular rumors and falsehoods about dealing with the pandemic, such as Hydroxychloroquine, Ivermectin, claiming that children have nothing to fear, claiming that 'lockdowns' actually make the pandemic worse, claiming that the vaccination would include the injection of microchip tracking devices, and that vaccines are a form of gene therapy (which they are not.)

All of these claims are false.

They are dangerous misinformation.

"Rogan and a guest claimed the government was withholding medical treatments

A December 13 interview featured Dr. Peter A. McCullough, a controversial cardiologist who has been a proponent of hydroxychloroquine as a COVID-19 treatment. McCullough said the US government implemented "an intentional, very comprehensive suppression" of treatments to "promote fear, suffering, isolation, hospitalization, and death," as well as encourage more vaccinations.

Rogan later repeated the idea that experts were withholding care, specifically monoclonal antibodies, in episodes from November 10 and 26, according to Media Matters. There's no evidence to support the claims. "

I was thinking the same thing, society today is nothing but drama that doesn't mean nothing. I don't listen to Rogan or Young and have no idea who that woman is. Society is just a bunch of fuckling cry babies

Joni Mitchell is(/was) a well respected singer/songwriter in the late 60's early 70's and can sometimes be found in lists of greatest guitarists for her use of alternate tunings and such. She actually wrote the song "Woodstock".

Hello Dutch,

Anger and hatred spread like disease.

If one person gets angry and takes it out on another, that wrecks the other's day. That person might go and take it out on yet somebody else. And so on.

It takes a very mature person to put a halt to it by recognizing that the anger shown to them is not their fault, and that upsetting someone else is inappropriate and will not undo what has happened. The best response is to understand the upset person is having a difficult time and forgive them. And the forgiveness does not have to be spoken out loud. What is in the heart and mind is where it's at.

The mature person certainly doesn't like to have somebody unload their anger upon them, but they are wise enough and self-confident enough to see it for what it is and not be tempted to try to pass it on to yet another unsuspecting person.

One individual having a bad day can wreck the day for 10 others.

We need more people to simply refuse to pass it along.

The hate peddlers do make things worse by spreading flames like pollen.

What the country needs is national free mental health counseling to help people realize all of this, and have the fortitude to be the rock that is impervious to hatred, and does not pass it along.

The ideal situation is when some immature individual gets angry and tries to unload their frustration on someone else, the other person refuses to absorb that bad energy and refuses to pass it along.

All great ideas. How do we get from here to there?

IMO, the solution is to first understand why they are angry. Most of the time it's one of three things: Fear due to ignorance, fear due to stupidity and fear due to insanity.

Anger and hatred begin as fear. Start looking the the similarities of those who hate, who are perpetually angry and who are violent. Anyone who does will see a stupid, ignorant and/or mentally ill person.

Fix that and the problems are reduced.

Here's the answer I often heard as a union pilot safety rep from airline management as their excuse for dangerous behavior: "It's legal".

Hello Dutch,

How to get people to really care and really try, is hope. I don't think many people have very high hopes for the future of America. Half of the country thinks the other half is destroying the country, and the other half thinks the same thing about them. What's really troubling is Americans thinking other Americans are horrible people. It's hard to have a lot of hope when you think it depends on people you're convinced are horrible.

America needs better understanding of who we are. No matter what our politics, we are people who are working our jobs, making our contribution to society happen, and all of our efforts put together keep this country going. I wish there was some way to get people to see their own place in the bigger picture, and to see all the other things that get done, and realize we need everybody doing their thing to make that all work.

It's not possible for either side to eliminate the other. Everybody needs to understand that. We are locked together, for better or for worse. We need to stop fighting and learn how to work together better. We need to get along. And most people would be fine with that. It's the extremists who refuse to compromise that keep the hatred going. And the greedy ones like the talk pundits who profit heavily from making it worse.

We need to teach people how to recognize that slick talk, and why it's important to ignore it. Teach 'em why hatred is wrong. If we teach anything in our schools at all we need to teach how great this country is, what it takes to keep it all going, how it should never be taken for granted, how everyone deserves to be respected. Teach appreciation for diversity.

Give people a reason to hope that the future will be better.

Like the radio, if they do not want to listen to Rogan they do not have to listen to Rogan. Spotify should tell the folks that do not want to hear Rogan not to listen to Rogan. If they cave here their platform is over for any podcast or information programming as nobody will want to put out anything on Spotify if they will censor everything until and unless it meets approved liberal guidelines. This Nazi crap has to end somewhere I hope Spotify stands up to it.

Yep if they give in to their demands now Spotify will lose all control of their own platform.

Agreed on the "go listen to something else" philosophy.

Part of the problem here is that Spotify doesn't generate the music. They're just an Internet version of a stereo system. If the artists pull their music, then all they have is static...and Joe Rogan which is often the same thing. LOL

Neil Young is a shit head here

I am all for people voting with their wallets. you don't like something, cut them out.

But when you have millions of people, and use your power to get others to vote with their wallet - you are now using your enhanced voice to collude and mess with others. Hey, you better be damn sure you know what you are talking about when you do this

Translation: Nationalize the music industry, force all musicians into labor camps to produce for the common good.

How fucking commie of you, asshole.

In deciding that they will curate "the truth" with their so-called COVID Hub Spotify has already capitulated. Now Rogan will be jammed by Spotify every time someone says on his program anything at odds with the official narrative....which has been in the main lies.

Then don't listen to him. Easy peasy.

BTW, here's what a dumbass looks like:

It's cultural. It can't be changed by election one asshole over another. Most people have to change on their own and the only way they'll change is if they want to change.

It's been common in schools for the past 40+ years that sports figures held more clout than chess or debate club members. It's an American cultural phenomenon. Guess who are the best high school heroes in Japan? LOL

Is it really any wonder that millions of Americans believe Joe Rogan over Anthony Fauci?

Tough love is the best way to go here; let the stupid and insane die, save all the smart ones.

Except more than likely the smart ones are not the ones you think that they are.

I keep being right a high percentage of the time, so my brain is still in good working order. It does though get a little wonky right before bed.

No doubt you're a terrific legend in your own mind, #10.

I can see why it might get wonky. What do you think is causing it?
