Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it. Why? Because for the majority of human history, human beings have lived in bondage, in poverty, under despotic leaders, with little to no freedom. But there’s a reason human beings have time and again voted for their own oppression: freedom is hard. It is not easy to be the governor of your own life. It involves struggle, toil, hard work, and it isn’t easy. Contrast personal freedom with the promise of collective “safety” and “security,” ambiguous terms sold by political charlatans in order to secure their power.
World War II survivor and Austrian Kitty Werthmann is a lesson in history. Her tale of Adolf Hitler’s rise to power is one we should all watch. It’s chilling, it’s terrifying, but worst of all, it sounds familiar. Watch:

 
The followers of the Hitler wanna-be, Donald Trump, are the ones who seem like Nazis.

They rave about the guy "making America great again"...when it is obvious he is turning it into the SEWER he claims he is here to drain.

How silly.. National Socialism wasn't liberal at all.. It was racist and fascist.. Hitler crushed ALL the intellectuals.. doctors, lawyers, professor and clerics.. anyone with an education who could oppose him.

He took away the citizenship, property and all civil rights from Jews and anyone he thought was undesirable. Does that sound like liberalism to you?

American liberals are not intellectuals. American liberals, of which this woman makes her compa4ison, are fascists.

True liberal thought is nowhere to be found in America, excepting in Libertarianism.

I’m not a fan of Nazi comparisons since we are light years away from rolling tanks into Canada or trying to exterminate classes of people. Even under Trump lol. Hard to believe, I know.

At best/worst, there are some elements of progressivism [they’re actually talking about progressive ideology and not liberalism] that Hitler would approve of. But then, Hitler would give the nod to some of Trumpist nationalism. But Hitler also hated Christianity [contrary to his propaganda]. Hitler probably liked gravy on his mashed potatoes.

The whole enterprise is intellectually lazy, imo. It’s a kind of ideological fear-mongering.

All of that said, we don’t need to go back to the last century for warnings about where the country is headed—or could be headed. Just go south of the border and look at what’s happening in Venezuela.

THAT or something like it, is entirely conceivable.

Are you familiar with Petro Carribe or what happened in VZ before Chavez got sick and the ppb collapsed?

He was making real progress after 70 years of chrony capitalism.

I am not a socialist by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a pretty impressive turnaround.
