Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is calling for a top tax rate of as high as 60 or 70 per cent on those earning double-digit million dollar incomes – and says she'll accept the 'radical' label.

The freshman lawmaker sat for an interview with Anderson Cooper for CBS' '60 Minutes' on her first day as a member of Congress.

She called tax increases to pay for it, and referenced the higher income tax brackets of prior generations.

'You look at our tax rates back in the '60s and when you have a progressive tax rate system your tax rate, you know, let's say, from zero to $75,000 may be ten percent or 15 per cent,' she said, in a clip that aired on CBS 'This Morning.'

In 1960, before tax cuts, the top rate was 91 per cent for those earning more than $200,000.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the newly elected nationalizing Socialist FEMOCRAT congresswoman, has revealed for the first time that she has Sephardic Jewish heritage.

The 28-year-old nationalizing Socialist FEMOCRAT said her distant ancestors fled the Spanish Inquisition to emigrate to Puerto Rico, where her immediate family roots lived until they moved to New York.

“Generations and generations ago, my family consisted of Sephardic Jews,” said Ocasio-Cortez. “So many people practiced Catholism on the exterior but on the interior they continued to practice.”

Speaking next to a Hanukkah menorah, Ocasio-Cortez was addressing a Jews For Racial And Economic Justice event in New York.

A few gasps and an audible, “oh really?” greeted her initial statement that she has Sephardic roots.

It’s believed to be the first time Ocasio-Cortez has mentioned her Sephardic roots. She didn’t explain why she has apparently never mentioned it before.

Ocasio-Cortez suggested that her relatives hid menorahs and other artifacts of Jewish practice in their homes on the overwhelmingly Roman Catholic island.

The claim of Sephardic heritage echoes the claim by her political ally Julia Salazar. Salazar says her father’s Colombian family had Sephardic roots, but her brother disputes the assertion.

NationalizingSocialist Occasional-Cortex runs when asked if she'll forgo her paycheck

Nationalizing-Socialist Ocasio-Cortez won’t say whether she’s giving up her own salary during the partial government shutdown — a move she previously advocated for all lawmakers.

“I’ve gotta run!” Ocasio-Cortez told reporters when asked the question on Capitol Hill.

She then scampered down a crowded hallway.

“It’s completely unacceptable that members of Congress can force a government shutdown on partisan lines & then have Congressional salaries exempt from that decision,” Ocasio-Cortez said on Dec. 22, the first morning of the Schumer shutdown. “Have some integrity.”
